question for those who made their own petal cones?

First let me say that i am not crafty at all!
I got directions from this site on how to make the petal cones. I bought the 12' doilies, cut them into quaters (like the directions said) and rolled them into cones. THen put a piece of tape to hold it closed.
My problem is....They are so small!!!! they look like the will only hold like 3 rose petals!!
Are they supposed to be so small? Also should there be an opening at the bottom? or should it be closed?
Someone please help?
thank you

Hi
I'm making my own also but i'm using vellum(spelling?) paper. My fh is printing them out so I don't have it with me to send u a pic, but they are not large. Although they will hold more than 3 petals. I have the templet for that if you would like it fm me and let me know. Also there should not be an opening on the bottom. It should be pretty tight on the bottom or at least a very small opening.

If u want to use the dollies then don't cut them into quarters may just in half and roll them. I haven't tried to make one with a dollie so i'm not certain as to how you are doing it.

hope this helps

I am going to try doing this with the doilies. Did you try just using the doilie (without cutting it) and making it into a cone?

ETA: or maybe just cut it in half?

I did the doilies and I did the same thing at first and could not believe how small it was!!! I wound up using 1 doilie per cone and just rolling it the exact size I wanted!!!

Me too. Instead I cut the doilies in half and rolled them. you can fit nine to ten petals in them.
