Question for those with a deceased parent

Question for those with a deceased parent

I am starting to get my program ready. My FH's mom is deceased and we were both wondering if she should be listed in the Wedding Party section as The Late Elizabeth XXXX, or if it's ok if we have her in 'the in memory' section. We are both clueless!

TIA!

My friend put:

Mother of the Bride + (actually it was for the grandparents)

and at the bottom it said

+ - with us in spirit

which i though was very nice...

Re: Question for those with a deceased parent

My father just passed last month and on our invitations that we ordered today, we worded it as follows:

Mrs Dads First Name and Last name requests the honour of your presence etc...

I would personally put a deceased parent in the memory section of a program which is how we will honor my father (should we do programs). A person who is deceased cannot be a member of a bridal party. It is sad but it is socially correct.

How long has it been since she passed?

my mom passed away, and we're having a memorial candle for her on the placecard piano in the lobby at the Vineyards. I'm not including her in the programs or ceremony.

Hey Christine! We just put a memoriam section in the back of our programs for my dad and our grandparents. I don't know if you still have it but we had it worded like this:

Although death has separated us physically, faith and love have bound us eternally.
Though we cannot see you, we know you are here,
Though we cannot touch you, we feel the warmth of your smile, as we begin our new lives.

Today we pause to reflect upon those who have shaped our character, molded our spirits and touches our hearts.

Re: Question for those with a deceased parent

According to Crane's Wedding Blue Book:

'When one of the bride's parents is deceased, her wedding invitations are issued by the survivng parent. His or her name appears alone on the invitational line.'

I think they do it this way because a person who is deceased cannot perform the action of 'inviting'. I had to explain this about half a dozen times to my mother. By using Dad's names following the 'Mrs.' we were giving Dad the honor he deserves.

That is such a lovely worded memorial. Mind if I steal it?

Not at all. I stole it from someone else too!

Of course I still have it! If yours was a full mass, I'd be stealing all of it!!

I understand but the theory behind it is the same. Good luck in your planning!

I didn't know if you took one!! I ended up with 35 extra because 'genius' decided we needed one per person. I pointed out to him yesterday that HE wasted like $100 on those extra programs

If his dad nevered remarried then I would put in the son of the Late Mrs. so and so. We put my mother under in memory of.

Re: Question for those with a deceased parent

My FH's Mother passed away almost 11 years ago.
In the invites we said

Kevin Middlename Firstname
Son of Dad's name and Mom's name

In the program it is listed:

Parents of the Groom: Mr. & Mrs. Firstname & Firstname Lastname

We will also be having a memorial candle.

I think the wording is a personal preference, what you're comfortable with. I don't think that 'etiquette' should always dictate - it's mostly subjective anyway.

This is beautiful... I think I'll use this too for my Mom.
