Question of the day

Original post by jteach711

After the wedding, who is going to be in charge of the finances. Will your fh take over everything? Are you the one who knows what they are doing with money? Or are you going to try and both take care of it?

My fh will be taking over and I can't wait. He is sooo good with money and finances and I am so bad. I can't wait till he starts paying my bills and I don't have to.

That is a great question. FH is really good with money, so I would want him to manage the finances, however, I am super organized and do well with paying my bills as it is. He is just more of a saver...

I'll have to bring this up at dinner tonight!!

I def. believe in equal power over financial responsibilities. FH earns more than me, however we are equally dividing all responsibilities that have to do with our living style. While I was growing up I watched my dad take care of everything, but then when he became ill...my mom didn't know where to start or how to budget.
I took a lesson from that!

I think it being equal power is great, personally i dont want to be in charge of the finances but uhmmm my fh has a spending problem and i really mean a problem, he can put just about every girl on here to shame when it comes to his shopping, he thought it was a HUGE accomplishment recently that he didnt shop for 4 days and told me like it was a big deal lol. So equal power is great but not when one person would see the money and think about spending it lol...I wish FH would take care of the finances, hes the one who is great at math and is extremely organized and OCD, so sounds like it makes more sense for him to do it lol, he knows exactly what he would have to do so if god forbid anything happened he'll know even better than me.

I am sure he'll help but im really gonna have to keep an eye and make ure we'll have enough to pay the bills lol

I guess it depends on the circumstances. Thats really funny your FH loves shopping....most guys I know cant stand it...lol
I hate math and the whole budgeting crap, but in my experience growing up, I cant see FH taking care of everything....thank god he understands because most of his friends dont agree, they feel that its the 'mans' job....LOL!

Both will fund the $$$ ... I'll take care of writing the checks- since I'm the organized one!

FH will be the one to pay the bills physically but we will both control the money. I don't mind him making the payments and deciding what is better investments and what not, I just need to know what we have, where it is and what is coming in next. As long as I know then he can manage it.

I think FH is better with handling finances but I'm too much of a control freak to be like here's my paycheck now pay the bills. I will definately learn to be competent!!! I don't do so bad now since I've been making wedding payments while only working part time.

FH says he'd like to do them which I'm fine with but I'll still know what's going on.

I will handle the finances. FH is no good with money. :) I just hope that someday he will COMBINE OUR CHECKING ACCTS! He doesn't to yet.

hahaha

I handle all of our bills now. So I guess after the wedding I'll keep on handling everything.

FH in charge of our finances?

Its probably going to be me...He is excellent at making money/business ventures, but he doesn't know how to save, invest, manage etc.

we'll probably keep everything the same as now - we have seperate checking account and handle all of our own bills......as far as the shared bills FH pays the big bills like the rent, car, car insurance and I pay the smaller bills like the cable, phone, electric, groceries, etc.

i think we'll do this too except I'm paying the bigger bills (mortgage, maintenance) and he's paying all the other ones. We have yet to open a joint account but we'll get around to it - we'll still have our own separate accounts though.

Re: Question of the day

we will do our finances together- I never want one of us to not know what we have in case of one of us falling ill or something.

I am watching my grandmother go through this now- my grandfather has been hospitalized for four months. For the 61 years that they have been married, he paid all the bills and did all the investing- and now with him in the hospital- it has fallen all to her and she had to learn it all- and at 86 believe me- its not been easy for her or us.

just something to think about.

I take care of both of ours now so I wil probably continue. We have been paying bills with my salary and saving his so i guess we both sorta share the overall finances.

oh i dont plan on one of us not knowing what is going on, ill always keep him updated and let him know our status, not like give me your money and im in charge...what i mean is that ill make sure our bills get paid and making sure we both have enough money in the bank...and i would NEVER invest money without talking to him about it...just bc we say we'll be in charge of the finances doesnt mean we take total control and they're oblivious to what were doing. It'll be more like ok you need to give me $1000 this month towards the bills and making sure he keeps a certain amount in the bank.
