question, please respond

Original post by brideXXX

Hi everyone, I am a pretty regular poster here, but I wanted to keep myself anonymous for this.

How would you feel if you were invited to a wedding of a fellow LIW bride, but verbally, not with an invite - sort of as a 'B' list person - for example, if someone did not make her minimum and asked you attend so she wouldn't have to pay for empty seats.
Would you feel insulted? Or not want to go because then you would feel obligated to give a gift?
Please give me your honest thoughts. TIA

I think the verbal invite was rude. I could understand the late invite because of the numbers, but you still deserve a formal invitation! Wedding are a great time, and if you see her as a friend . . . GO!!! (she should still have given you an invitation!!! )

I will post because I am currently guilty of this.

I met my minimum about 2 weeks ago, thank God. So anyone else added after that is actually above our minimum and we have to pay extra for, but that's not important.

There were 2 LIW brides that I extended invites to after I had already mailed my invites out. One is happily coming, the other I only asked this week, so I'm waiting for an answer. The 2nd bride I invited because I originally wanted to invite her but FH kept yelling everytime I added another person to the list, so I had to stop somewhere, and unfortunately it was right before I could add her name. In no way do I expect a gift from ANYONE regardless of when I invited them.

If I got an invite right now to someone's wedding verbally, I would be honored whether I was an A, B or even C list person, simply because they didn't have to invite me at all in the first place. And I would still give a gift regardless, because that's just my nature. Everyone is different.

Just wanted to add another note on this, after reading what some others are posting.

A verbal invite may be a little impersonal to some, but what if this bride ran out of invites?!?! I have 2 LIW brides on my invite list, and if need be I will invite more to meet the minimum, but I can tell you all right now, I have MAYBE 5 extra invites. I say MAYBE b/c I am still waiting for a few addresses (yes, still waiting).

Also, just as Janna posted before, I too gave a gift to the one LIW I attended. It would have felt awkward not to, again, as Janna said, that's just me and others may feel different. Don't get me wrong, it was less than if it were my best friend's wedding, but still, a gift is a gift.

I wouldn't be insulted, I'd be happy to go. To be perfectly honest, I was more upset at invites I thought I would get from some LIW girls, but didn't.

I would not be insulted at all. But, I would feel obligated to give a gift. I've read etiquette books that say wedding gifts are not obligatory, but shower gifts are (whether or not you attend), but I don't feel comfortable attending a wedding and not giving a gift - even if it is only $25 or $50. Yes, I realize that would not at all cover a plate at a LI wedding, but showing up empty handed just doesn't really work for me.

Right now, my guest list is completely maxed out. There are a ton of LIW brides I would like to invite to my wedding. If I get enough no's, I will. If I don't I will send each and every one of them a FM and ask them to attend the ceremony.

I would not be offended at ALL!!!!! After all...we all know what it is like to plan a wedding and when we dont meet the minimum.. it is a total waste of money, and thats HORRIBLE considering all the money that we spend! Im sure most of us would totally understand , because this can happen to any one of us.
Another reason why I would be honored because out of all the brides on this site, someone would be nice enough to want to invite me to share in what is the most important day in their lives!! To me, that is quite an honor.. I would be FLATTERED- not insulted.

I agree. There are some people that I really would have wanted to invite but couldn't b/c of $$$$. If I didn't make my min I would be so upset that I could have had them there and I would probably be uncomfortable about inviting them late but would still want to.
I would feel honored that this bride thought enough of me that she wanted me to share in one of the most imp't days of her life

I don't care when or on what terms I was invited to a wedding.

It's a honored privledge to share in one of the most intimate times of someone's life, and I would never even think to not attend b/c I didn't recieve a 'paper' invitation or at the 'last minute.'

Ditto, Chrissy!

I would love to go to someone's wedding and help out! I can't imagine paying for people that aren't coming or looking around and seeing a sea of empty seats at my wedding - I'd be so sad.
I've never really been to many and Jeff and I are always up for a good time :)
Anyone???

For a fellow LIW bride, I would be so totally ecstatic to be a stand-in! I just feel like there's an understanding between LIW brides.

We had a cancellation the night before my wedding. I am so thankful for the couple that was a last minute stand in. They were friends of the best man.

If it were the wedding of someone I knew from elsewhere, I think it really depends on the situation.
