Question to all my Douglaston Manor brides...

Original post by Mrsmonty

I am seriously considering booking with them for this summer (Aug 2010). I am going for a tasting on Saturday, then I will decide if I am going with them based on their food.

I was wondering how many of you have encountered issues with not being the only party there? I know they only have one main bathroom and I can imagine that it could get a little busy in there. I just wanted to know what were others experience with that.

Also if were any other drawbacks to the wedding site. Please share!!

Re: Question to all my Douglaston Manor brides...

Ok ladies, I just got back from my meeting with Cress florist- Tom is so amazing. He made up sample after sample after sample until he was sure I got exactly what I wanted. We got the works there- boutonnieres, bouquets, centerpieces, flower girl baskets, things for moms, things for dad, etc etc. He was so so so accommodating and nice and talented.

I also took a trip to Cascon which is the Douglaston's baker (and the owner is a cousin of mine so I may be a bit bias here) but yummy, and awesome.

I also went to The Douglaston and they were setting up for a wedding- everything looked so beautiful, it's indescribable. The food cooking smell beyond delicious, the decor was amazing, and my BM Thomas was great as always.

We all really lucked out with this venue :)
Everything is going to be perfect for us!

I had my food tasting today! the food was delish! There was a wedding going on today so I got a chance to see it set up!! The party was using the conservatory for the ceremony and it looked so romantic! The lighting was perfect! She lined the aisle with rose petals and used six huge glass cylinders filled with water and put floating candles in them. I thought that was cute. I asked and she was using the house florist. I think I am going to use them from what I saw today, they did a great job.

Well I am even more excited than I was before to have my wedding there. I decided to use the chair covers.

I finally got my BM's together yesterday and we got our BM dresses! I was in a panic since they kept saying may need to pay rush fees. It's January and it's too late to order for a May 29th wedding? Also for the MOB dress. Well, not too late but just in the nick of time.

Anyhow, the Cress Florists guy said to bring in a swatch of the BM dresses when I choose them. So, I guess I can go there now. I am excited. He sounded very accommodating and nice.

Yes, Tom from Cress is great! Wait until you meet with him- he'll do anything you want to make sure you are getting exactly what you need. We have the package from Douglaston, and with that package you can only get low table arrangements- not high ones- but he said for a little more money he could do high centerpieces. I opted to get the low ones anyway, and I love them

Hi everyone!

FH and I are seriously considering booking with Douglaston but were thrown off by the following:

-only three entree selections offered to guests
-$35 per table for assorted cookies/pastries (of all the RHs we've visited this is the only one that charges extra)

Anyone have experience with upgrading/negotiating with DM? Thanks : )

Well I dont know if they gave me more leeway because I am so close to my wedding date. But they were willing to negotiate with me.
I just asked my BM was there anything he could do about the price. (The price was already pretty awesome!)
They came down only came down 5.00 a head, but lowered the grantee, threw in the chair covers, and an ice sculpture. I wanted him to come down on the Viennese hour price but I didn't want to get carried away. I might still ask him to come down a little later.

I didnt have a problem with the menu selection. I think that three is pretty standard.

They are defintily willing to negotiate so make sure you do. I think most places offer three dishes and i wouldnt let that deter you from booking with them. They seem very willing to work with you. We had gone with the silver package but we are able to get them to throw in some of the things from the platnium package. We loved the platnium package but it was a little mor ethan we could afford. I'm still gonna try and negotiate tother thigs that we never thought to ask about while we were booking becaue we were so excited to find a place we absolutly loved

I'm so glad to see that there are others on here using Cress. Tommy did the flowers for my sister's wedding and for mine. They were all gorgeous! Not a CP left behind at either wedding!
