Ok this may sound stupid but, I have a VERY large lymph node that just swelled out of no where, on Friday, behind my right ear, I also have a smaller one that swelled on the back of my neck. I am not sick, or feel like I am coming down with anything. Has anyone had this. I looked it up online and of course everything I read is telling me I have cancer, I dont think this is the case.

Re: Quetion about Lymph Nodes
Do you have insurance? If you do, and you don't require a referral to see a specialist make an appointment with an ENT or otolaryngologist. If you do require referrals go see your primary. You could have an infection, it could really be a million little things.
Good luck, and stop reading for diagnosis by the internet - it's never a good idea.

No, at this time I dont have insurance, I had just started a new job, and didnt bother to inquire about health benefits since im getting married next month and will just go under FH's insurance.
I usually wouldnt give a crap about this, but the node is HUGE and now i have one that came out in the back of my head. I think ill give it a week, and then just pay out of pocket, if it doesnt get better

are they painful to the touch? Did they start out smaller and increase in size, or have they pretty much remained the same size?

Re: Quetion about Lymph Nodes
they dont hurt at all. I didnt even know they were there until i went to push my hair back behind my ears. The one behind my ear is not tender or soft at all, just this hard lump. The one on the back of my head is much smaller and soft.

Honestly, I would make an appointment. I don't think I would wait the week.

i'm with laurie, i'd make the appt and find out for sure. your dr. might even cut you a little slack...i became ill at xmas and needed antibiotics, they gave me 'samples' so i wouldn't have to pay out of pocket at the pharmacy.

I would call the doctor too. You don't want ot worry about it with your wedding being so close. Its probably stress related or somehting but its always best to know for sure.

Re: Quetion about Lymph Nodes
I have a similar situation .. ive been to every doctor under the sun from a ENT to a infectious disease doc... they all dont know whats wrong with me... (the node in front of my ear swelled and my gland behind my eye swelled and my eye swelled shut for 5 months) it wasn't a pleasent thing... and its still listed on all my charts (yes liek 7 of them diff types of docs ) as 'virus unknown'
at first i did the same thing you did... looked at all the websites and thought the big C .. however if you talk to a doc (the ID doc helped the most)... you find out theres sooo many diseases both mild (whereits just an annoyance to have bumps) to severe (which is rare) sooo best bet is go to a primary doc.. they will proly give you to another doc.. you do need to get it checked out.. simple blood tests can rule out the most serious stuff.. and then theres easy tests to rule out others...
if you want to talk FM me ill help you out... all my docs were in north jersey though so i can't give you docs but we can chat and you can get some peace of mind...
