Quick friends

Original post by sr081906

Have you ever felt like you bonded with some people too soon, too fast and felt that they were great friends from the beginning only to find out that you are not that special to them? That they do that with a lot of people.

NO... what I meant was not about high maintenance friendship. I was talking about people who became your friend very quickly then disappear from the planet because they really were never your friend. They switch to a new friend all the time. They will never hear back from them EVER. You will only find out later... or will just will never hear back from them leaving you wondering what you did wrong. They just stop talking to you.

I never feel like this...mostly b/c I don't look to attach myself to someone. I have my fun while I am having it...if it continues. cool. but every day I could fall in love with a new friend again....I have a short attention span....I have very few long term friendships in my life....

Yeah- I know what you mean, I'm still that friend.
It's not like I ignore peopple's ophone calls and blow them off, but I will be super friendly, and quickly drift away. I am a friend whore. But it's not ever that anyone did wrong. Maybe it's more like I'm afraid of friendship commitment?
Hmmm.

me too. But it is due mainly to a hatred of the telephone and also an extreme disdain for making plans i nthe future. Damn commitment-phobia.

WOW... I am now talking to the 'other' side of the fence.

Disclaimer: I mean nothing 'personal' just pure interest.

Did you ever think of the people you 'left behind' and that you might have hurt their feeling?

Again.. no guilt trip here... just curiousity!

Very interesting confession!

I really don't think there's anything wrong with it, though. Maybe people are just looking for different things from friendships. I don't have the time to have a new best buddy, so I keep friendships in the laid back stage. I feel like I just don't have what it takes to commit to BFF-dom.

Not really. But then, seeing that Laurie, Jessica, and Suz are all on my side of the fence- I would say that it's probably a safe bet that the type of people I have as 'love-em and leave-em' friends, are the same way. So that may not at all be an issue.

no, it's ok. I am insanely curious about people different than myself too.

honestly, sometimes I DO feel a bit guilty...b/c I genuinely like people I befriend, no matter for how long I am 'active' and when I do, I give a call.

generally, I am upfront about my weird way.-I tell people I am horrible at KIT and all that good stuff..I know in certain respects I am a bad friend, BUT if this person were to call me in a crisis, I'd be there in a heartbeat...I don't know if I am making sense...it's not that I no longer LIKE the person...my mind just shifts focus...

I definitely do not do this out of malice...

True but you also said that you choose laid back frienships (I am assuming vs. high maintenance.. I need to see you every weekend kind of deal!) and don't need a new best buddie. So... you don't really 'qualify' for the type of person I am talking about.

I totally understand. I personally am the worst friend to send cards. It's just terrible. I lack any skills in that category. I mean to do ... it just doesn't happen.

I don't understand what type of person you're talking about then. I agree with all the things Jessica said. I have a friend, then we don't talk. Then I have a new one. ADD of the friendships.

Oh- I get it- you have a best buddy, hang out all the time, then nothing? I have also been known to do that. I never mean to be a jerk, but I do do that. But I would say, in the past, that that road went both ways, though.
I would definitely say something to said friend, though. I am big on asking people to confirm or deny my suspicions.

Re: Quick friends

oh btw, I find that the people who I have remained friends with over time, did not need me to be bff's with them all the time.

in fact, I have friends that I won't speak to for months, and then I'll call them to go away for the weekend, and their bag is packed 15 minutes later.

I need room to breathe...and I guess I need to miss someone for a while...
