QUITTING SMOKING FOR THE WEDDING . . .

Original post by 12-3Princess

Soooo, I quit smoking Sunday night in preparation for the wedding (do NOT want to be seen smoking in that pretty ivory dress) - Plus, I have wanted to quit for a long time anyway . . .

As of now, it's been almost 3 days of no cigarettes, cold turkey, with one piece of emergency nicorette gum.

Has anyone else quit lately? We could offer mutual support & encouragement on this thread . . .

I'm not a smoker, and never have been, but FH is, and I told him, he WILL NOT, I repeat WILL NOT be around me on my wedding day smoking anything, and that goes for BM's, and anyone else in my wedding. So good luck to you guys b/c seeing FH try to stop looks very hard. He's tried to cut back, instead of cold turkey all at once. Maybe you guys should try that.
Good Luck
You guys can do it.

I highly recommend Werllbutrin. It totally stopped the cravings..

Is it expensive

My insurance covers it, If your Dr. says it's for depression instead of quitting smoking. I paid 15 bucks and he gave me a years worth of prescriptions. I will probably not use if after next month.

Good for you! I was considering this but I'm afraid I'll gain weight and be a b*tch in the coming weeks. I'm going to strive to quit after the honeymoon. I'm trying to cut down in the meantime.

THANKS! and good luck to you!

PS - - I'm always a b*tch so that wasn't a huge concern...

Me too, me too! LOL! I thought FH would call off the wedding if, on top of the current stress, I got b*tchy due to withdrawal. Not a good combo for me.

Ohhhh, good point. Maybe I should change my phrase over my chat avatar picture to 'I THINK I'm getting married this month'

Yes, I quit back in April for the same reasons as you. As well as the fact that I couldn't breath and didn't even realize it. But, I LOVE smoking and I miss it, but I'm not going to go back.

Exactly. I LOVE smoking and miss it already... but it's not worth the health consequences...

I've quit before for a few months, but always went back because myFH smokes too and it's doubly hard to quit when you're around someone else that does it . . . But this time, I have to stick to it... And hopefully FH will stick to his plan to quit after the wedding . . .

I have quit in the past for 6 months then went back to it. My FH smokes also. Now, I just make him smoke in the kitchen and nowhere else in the house. If he complains, I just tell him 'I could make you go outside'

Congrats to everyone who has quit/is quitting. YOU CAN DO IT!!!

I quit February 8, 2003 cold turkey and I have not missed it at all! I smoked 2 packs a day (minimum) and was a smoker for 16 years. It is possible....if you are ready & actively put your mind to it!

Good luck!

The only side effect I've noticed is a yucky taste in my mouth that goes away after a few hours

I tried using it but got bad headaches and dizzy spells... on the good side, it did help me lose weight. I think everyone will respond to it differently.

It didn't help me quit smoking when I used it but that might be because I didn't take it long enough.
