random poll about pocketbooks

so tonight, chris and i were at a wake for his mom's cousins father. and there was a young girl (20-21) there with a huge coach bag. so we get to talking about how much it probably costs..fast forward to me going to coach.com and discovering that the bag is well over $300!!! now, i have a coach bag, i have a few actually. one purse that i bought for myself and i have 3 wristlets, one was a gift and one and a half i bought with a gc from christmas. anyhoo, the one i bought myself almost caused world war 3 because it was over $100, relatively inexpensive for Coach, but WAYYY to expensive for cheapy mc cheap-cheap. so my question to you is this: how much have you or would you spend on a purse?? it can be anonymous, but we are all friends here, this is just me being nosey. i don't think i could spend more then $200 on a purse, but i know some LV bags literally run into the thousands

thoughts?

I'm not big on bags. I just need something to carry my stuff in. I wouldn't spend more than $50 and right now I'm not spending anything on myself that isn't for the wedding.

thats what i mean, if i had a $500 gc to coach, i'd go big, but i wouldn't spend that much of my hard earned money. and just to add, i don't care how much other people send on bags and such, its not my $$ they are spending. but i do find it obscene to spend over 1k on a hand bag

Honestly, I could not see myself spending alot of money on a pocketbook. Especially my own money. I'm not really into coach. If I received it as a gift sure I would use it but It's not like I have to have one.
I think those prices are crazy!!!!!!! JMO

I am ashamed to say that I picked the 200+ category! I wasnt always this way but then my FH bought me my first designer bag! The next one I bought myself and let it sit in the shopping bag for 2 months b/c I felt so guilty that there were starving people in the world! By the time i bought the next one, I pretty much thought to myself, some people pay $4.50 for a cup of coffee in the morning...I can just make my coffee at home and buy a $300 dollar pocket book once per year! Those coffee drinkers probably shell out more money during the year!!

I think you may be hooked! I cant even bring myself to buy a fakie! Although with the cost of the wedding...those pocketbook parties may entice me!!!

I have to say I've spend $200+ on a bag. I lost 30 pounds a year ago, and as a treat to myself I promised myself any purse I wanted. But to make it sweeter, I couldn't buy any purses until I reached a certain weight. Let me tell you, it was about 9 months before I could buy one and it just about killed me. My reward? A suede gallery tote by Coach that was originally $300, but I applied for a Hechts card and got a discount. So it was $270, which made me feel a little better.

I love bags, but can't bring myself to spend more than 50 on them. I loved a coach bag I saw, but just coudn't spend $250 on a pocketbook!

Re: random poll about pocketbooks

but would you spend over $250 on a bag every other month or once a year? most likely not, as a reward is great, but to spend that kind of bread on a bag is just crazy to me.

I definitely have bags that were obscenely expensive. I love bags. I have a real fetish for them. They don't make me look fat, and they always fit! I haven't bought a bag in a while, but I am planning to get myself a new coach for my birthday. I cannot wait.

Right now, money is a bit tight. But if I had the money, I could see splurging on a bag once a year. Not once a month, though.

They are definetely over priced but I love them!! When I worked in the city I bought so many Kate Spade bags at sample sales and I hardly use them now.

My one big Coach bag was about $300 I use it alot but I could have spent the money on other things.

Is that BEFORE or AFTER I realized just how much this wedding was going to cost us???
I LOVE coach and I do have a nice collection but it's been put on hold since the engagement. HEY, It's FH's fault! He bought me my first bag and my addiction began! If he ONLY knew.........

I have a huge bag fetish, it is almost as bad as my show fettish
FH bought me a gorgeous Burberry bag for Christmas and I Love it. I don't think I would of spent the money myself on a bag though. I was asking him to bring me home a fake Burberry from the city and he totally surprised me for Christmas.

'Coach Addict' Alert!

Not ashamed to say that I love Coach and easily picked the over $200 category.

Now that we have a place in PA, I go to the outlets..the one I am carrying today only cost me about $70. But I have the big C tote and matching wallets and that has cost big time of my or FH's cash.

I do have less expensive purses that I do carry as well... but to me you use purses so much more than you do an expensive outift or a wedding dress or anything.... so I have no prob. pluncking down some cash on something i absolutely love!

Re: random poll about pocketbooks

When I went to London last year, I had promised myself that I would buy a Burberry bag while over there.. cause I had wanted one for SOOOOOO long. But when I was there, in the store with the bag in hand, I just couldn't bring myself to spend that much. I chickened out..

But that doesn't mean I don't appreciate a great bag find here in the States! I bought myself a Coach last year, and I felt great about it. I used it every day last summer. And when I finish my Masters in the Fall, I will be purchasing a lovely Coach Attache case for myself too! I'm not even going to look at the price tag, cause I've earned it! (I'm also justifying this purchase by the fact that my lovely, adoring FH just went out and bought ANOTHER new set of golf irons... I see my days as a golf widow already!)
