random poll about pocketbooks

Original post by sarahthegreat

so tonight, chris and i were at a wake for his mom's cousins father. and there was a young girl (20-21) there with a huge coach bag. so we get to talking about how much it probably costs..fast forward to me going to coach.com and discovering that the bag is well over $300!!! now, i have a coach bag, i have a few actually. one purse that i bought for myself and i have 3 wristlets, one was a gift and one and a half i bought with a gc from christmas. anyhoo, the one i bought myself almost caused world war 3 because it was over $100, relatively inexpensive for Coach, but WAYYY to expensive for cheapy mc cheap-cheap. so my question to you is this: how much have you or would you spend on a purse?? it can be anonymous, but we are all friends here, this is just me being nosey. i don't think i could spend more then $200 on a purse, but i know some LV bags literally run into the thousands

thoughts?

Kiddo, we are living parallel lives. FH just bought a new driver, so I said, I'm buying new expensive jeans. When I went to London a few years ago, I didn't chicken out like I should've, and ended up buying a Burberry bag as my trip souvenir. I justified it b/c I was in London, buying a brand founded in London. It was expensive and I could have easily gotten it here.

I checked the 200 plus category in the poll. My high end bag obsession began after a bad breakup, shopping a lot to make myself feel betetr, and I actually put my name on a waiting list for the small Louis Vuitton purse that everyone has. That was over 5 years ago. I buy one high end bag a year, but I can say they are always classis styles, not trendy, so I will always use them. I am happy to say I use all of them and keep them in good condition. Bags are my 'thing.'

I run the gamut from cheap to expensive...I do have a small Coach purse, which I didn't buy for myself, but for the price, I don't think Coach's quality is high enough.

I do buy myself an Agnes B. bag whenever I go overseas...I bought my first in Paris almost 8 years ago, and ever since I have stuck to her line as my 'european splurge'. If I were going to buy a Coach bag, it would only be at the outlets....for a leather bag, I'd rather buy one of great quality at a street fair in Florence. You get the same leather as the designers, but for the same price as the name brand, I get the bag AND the vacation!!!

i the past i have spent $15 in marshalls. i have spent over 40x that on LV and fendi.
the big purchase bags i have kept for years - so it really depends.

with the house and wedding, though, it looks like i will be living off my collection for a very long time. so, in a way i am happy i made those purchases in the past, if i had waited until now, they never would have been bought!

The most expensive bag I have bought was about $400. I LOVE it to death and use it as often as I can. I am a bag and shoes girl. i won't even tell you how much I spent on a pair of shoes once.

I definitely have a bag fetish. I have 2 LV's and a Coach. I bought them a few years ago and use them all the time. Personally, I feel that I would rather buy a nice bag once every few years than buy 4 or 5 $50 bags a year. (which is what I used to do). I just make sure they aren't too trendy and that way I can use them for a loooong time.

I have spent up to 40 bucks on a bag. All my expensive bags were gifts from FH.

wow - we got a lot of purse crazy girls on the 06 board. but i agree with most of it, if i see a caoch bag i love for a resonable amount, i'll buy it. but if i see a cute kenneth cole bag at macys for $30, i'll buy that first. i try to stay away from trendy or one season bags, i just can't spend over $200 for a summer bag

I'm not a big bag person just as long as it holds my stuff in it then I am fine with it. -

I have to confess that I have spent 200+ on a bag, but that was before I was planning a wedding. Couldn't do that now!

If money were no object...yes I'd spend whatever they were asking for a bag...I would LOVE to have a Tods bag or a Hermes but unless I hit the lotto anytime soon...I'll stick to my great discount finds...you gotta love Century 21

Kiddo, we are living parallel lives. FH just bought a new driver, so I said, I'm buying new expensive jeans. My high end bag obsession began after a bad breakup, shopping a lot to make myself feel betetr, and I actually put my name on a waiting list for the small Louis Vuitton purse that everyone has. I still kinda regret not buying the Burberry.. but I dont know if I would use it as much now as I had thought I would. Tastes change, which is why if I do purchase an expensive bag, it has to be classic in construction... nothing too too trendy...
Oh and FH's bday is today, and the only thing he wanted was a new driver to go along with those new irons he got. Cost: $299, and that's on SALE! For ONE club!!!! If Kissy wasn't with me, I might just have bought it for him. Luckily, came to my senses and got him a GC for part of it.. he can fork up the rest!

I love how men complain how much we spend on bags and then spend THOUSANDS on golf clubs! Happy Bday to your FH!

Thanks CJStein! (Jill )

I tried to get the club, honest I did.. but he told me it was on SALE... $30 off of $329 is NOT A SALE! He's so clueless! But I love him anyway... and it doesn't help that I support his golf habit! I come from a huge family of golfers.. it's in my blood! So I understand the need to upgrade occasionally.. but he just got new irons last year!
If I wasn't paranoid about finances, I'd go out and buy myself the Louis I want!

I don't know I really didn't put much thought in to it .....I don't mean to sound like a you know what but my mom is dressing me ....the Head piece I picked out was 500 dollars its crazy I don't even want to think about adding stuff up - but I don't think that I would spend a lot on a bag cause I'm not really going to be using it

Erin, yeah, we decided my wedding present to him is new woods to go along with the new driver...I don't even want to know how much they are going to cost! And Iask him what I'm getting, he says the ridiculous amount of money you're spending on flowers for the wedding! LOL! I was thinking some diamond earrings would be nice.

They all think they're on the PGA Tour., ESPECIALLY when they play at Bethpage
