Random question, but i'm sure it applies to many...

My mom just informed me that the guestlist is on the rise b/c of my great grandmothers family who I'm positive I've never met has to come. And they will fill up a table on their own...

So here's my question... If I never met these people before in my life, how do I do the whole meet n greet thing with them? What do you plan on doing for situations like this?

I have that issue on Fh's side....not to offend anyone..but I am from an Italian/Croatian fam and he is Irish. His family gatherings are totally different from mine...like..fill your plate and go to your room..no talking no interacting...its so weird. my family is like one huge table where everyoneh angs out all night playing cards and drinking grappa! When we started the guest list..fmil put all these poeple down and fh was like...who the hell is that? he hasnt scene any oth these people in years! so..at the wedding...i dont even have him to say..jenn..that my aunt so and so...i am totally worried about this...I have a huge family and we are so close so this is a bit foreign to me...I just dont want o offend anyone. i have been studying my guest list like its the SAT!

I specifically said to FH that I didn't want to be meeting people for the first time at our wedding. However, some of his cousins live out of state and I have yet to meet them. We had to make a list of his aunt and uncles and put whose kids are whose, and we plan on studying it (yes FH doesn't even know some of these people) before the wedding.
I think doing the seating chart will help, since then you'll know where these people are at least sitting.

This will be the case with FH's family. Honestly, I think I will be too excited to even remember IF I meet anyone that day. I am just going to say 'thank you so much for coming' and keep it movin'!

My rule is, that if I don't know them and FH doesnt know them then they don't need to be there. My brother did the same thing at his wedding. We have a ton of 2nd cousins, but we dont see them on a regular basis so they wont be invited. The only ones we are inviting are the ones we see outside of weddings and funerals.

Pretty much 3/4 of my FH's family that is attending the wedding is compiled of people that neither him nor I have ever met. We just plan on saying 'Hi, thank you for coming.' blah blah blah. Thankfully FH's family is chinese and most of them won't speak much english anyway. (I know that is so horrible of me to say)

I feel exactly the same way. My FH's side is enormous. I was also toying aruond with doing a second receiving line right after CH to make sure I catch everyone (with both parents present) before they enter the reception. This way I know im done doing my hellos and can party down.

have your parents introduce you to them and then you can thank them for coming.

I can't count on FH to introduce me or even know who his family members are (he hasn't meant a lot of them either) so I'll just smile and say thanks for coming. I just want to make sure I at least say hi to every single guest - I was just at an engagement party where the bride didn't say hi to half of the groom's friends and they were so so mean about it later. So I want to be careful I don't miss anyone :)

A lot of FHs aunts and cousins live in different countries and I have never met them. FH doesn;t even know half of their names! I have no idea how I am going to handle this but I am hoping FMIL will bring me over and introduce me!

Yeah this way everyone gets a quick hello, and is greeted personally, AND you can have the fathers or mothers from both sides with you to introduce etc. It shouldnt take too long for me, bc im doing a receiving line at church as well. All the ppl who were there can bypass the second line (im putting it in my program) :)

we lied to fmil about the guest list because of this...

but when his brother got married they walked around with their parents who introduced them to the people they didnt know!
