if someone gave you a check that was 'cheap', would you still write 'thank you for your generous gift'?
just wondering :-P
i probably would not write 'generous' ....

Re: random Thank You question
i probably wouldn't use the word 'generous' but i definitely would be very polite and grateful in my thank you. Maybe i'd call it thoughtful.

Re: random Thank You question
let me clarify i guess (mind you this is a completely hypothetical situation lol)
based on the person's financial situation, you expected them to be more generous than they were ... (like a rich aunt who came with her hubby and 3 kids and only gave $200 ... it's still nice, but not as nice as you were expecting)
and please don't think i'm not being greedy here .... i'm just asking cause i'm bored
ETA: obviously you'd still be nice to the person and send a nice thank you card ... but would you use the word 'generous'...? that's the real question

Re: random Thank You question
I would call the 'cheap' gift kind or thoughtful but never generous.

Re: random Thank You question
i just wrote out my thank you cards, a couple of our friends gave $25 checks. in those instances i just wrote 'thank you for your gift and for sharing our special day with us. your thoughtfulness is greatly appreciated'.

Re: random Thank You question
Any gift is generous. People don't HAVE to give anything, so when they do, I think its both generous and thoughtful.

Re: random Thank You question
I'd probably put thoughtful. It's not generous if you know for a fact that they spent the same amount as what they would on couple of beers at a sports bar.
