RANT - Lillette's - UPDATED

Original post by BeLissa

I will start off by saying, I know a lot of you have had great experiences there, so please dont jump down my throat for expressing my thoughts on this place and my particular ordeal.

I went to Lillette's this past Sat to try on dresses and had a particular dress in mind (the one I just bought) that they did not carry but told me they could order for me. I went to try it on at another salon yest and called Lillette's to ask how much they were asking for it. They wanted a few hundred more and when I told them how much i was quoted (they asked) they told me that the manufacturer does not allow for this dress to be sold less than a certain amount and if they found out that it was being sold at that price they would stop doing business with that salon.

So, I buy the dress at the less expensive price and today had a question about the train so i called the salon to ask. The owner, who was so nice and measured me herself yest, told me politely after answering my question that she got a call from the manufacturer after i left yest claiming that a Long Island salon called and informed them that they were selling the dress too low - and USED MY NAME that this LI salon had given them. I was FUMING. Seriously, my blood was boiling. I get that its a cut throat business with price wars and whatnot, but how dare you have the audacity and unprofessionalism to bring a potential bride of your shop into the situation. I was mortified when the owner told me this. Completely embarrassed.

I am thoroughly disgusted with the way Lillette's handled this situation - Donna specifically, since she was the one that ratted them out at MY expense - and they will be hearing EXACTLY how I feel about the situation the minute they open tomorrow morning. I may have been sweet as pie Saturday, but tomorrow the claws come out.

I have to say that after reading so many glowing reviews of Lilette's I was underwhelmed by their service when I went there to look for bridesmaid dresses. They seem to have a holier-than-thou attitude.

Thank you for informing us about this issue with Lilette's...I just hope your post doesn't get pulled...

i don't doubt that i may be flamed for this ...

but i see things from a different perspective.

if the manufacturer has a set pricing structure for their gowns (usually intended to prevent people from shopping around and to reduce this sort of competitiveness between stores) ... how is it fair that the original store sell the dress at below that set price?!

its a shame that you got caught in the middle, but i don't blame lillette's one bit for calling the manufacturer!

100% agree but they used her name...THAT is not ok, its not right in all regards.

i would definitely call them up and give them a little peice of your mind.........how rude and unprofessional

i agree!! competition is competition especially if they're selling gown below market price, HOWEVER you dont get a bride's name involved!! that's just ridiculous!

yes ... absolutely ... using her name was not right!

like i said above, its a shame that she got caught in the middle of things.

i was just trying to point out that while it was wrong of lillette's to use her name, the other dress store was ALSO wrong to price the dress lower than the manufacturer allows.

so ... if the other dress store would have just followed the pricing structure, the OP would have purchased the dress where ever she felt more comfortable/happier/convenient instead of price hunting and causing this unfortunate situation.

i guess my point is that BOTH stores are wrong here

it ***** that you got stuck in the middle of it and your name was used

BUT honestly and dont take this the wrong way but whenever ANYBODY goes into a store and tells them that they found it for less at X store then you do kinda put yourself in the middle of it, i see alot of girls on here and other ppl i know who do this and i always think 'Oooo i cant do that' bc for one some ppl lie just to get a better deal and the store might be upset about this and actually call to find out, or in this situation the other store was doing something against the manufacturers wishes and now they got caught bc of it.

i know some people get mad and say how its a cut throat business but the salons have to purchase these dresses, of course they get it for less and have to make a profit for it, theyre not in the wrong really unless they mark it up by alot and against what the manufacturer says, now of course we all want to save money but at the same time as a business you need to pay the rent, pay employees, supplies and much more so for them its about keeping their business open and not like we'll pay their rent.

ALso i think even if they didnt use your name this other bridal salon would've known it was you anyways since they asked about that particular dress and you JUST went in for it, so they would've put 2 and 2 together. Even if no names were used i think they would've known.

I dont care that they called the manfacturer to try and get this other store to do the right thing and sell the dress at the price they want it sold at - i get that. Competition is what it is. I care that they had the nerve to use my name. Period. And you're right - they clearly would have figured it out regardless, since i was JUST there. So telling on me was completely unnecessary. Not to mention tacky.

Im so surprised to see this happen there. I have had to buy dresses from that store in the past and have also been in their store plenty of times to browse, they never seem to care that people walk in and out without buying. I just figured that they do a lot of business. It seems almost scandalous that they would do this to a person. But the answer then is obvious. DONT buy from them.

i went to lilettes also. the same thing happened to me with price of the dress. she asked what was the price at the other salon, I didnt remember the exact price but I know its less so I told her that, she said well we dont bargain shop, so then why ask what the other price was? well I told her the name of the other place, I wonder if they called that designer or salon too

Good for you. Its the fricken wedding business everyone is trying to find a lower price especially when things are ridiculously OVER PRICED when it comes to weddings. The point is, you were not the one who told this other place to sell the dress for a lower price, nor did you know they could get in trouble. Lilette's wanted to mention your name because they were pissed you were going to buy your dress somewhere else especially when the people were selling it for a price they shouldnt sell it for. THEREFORE they wanted you to get in trouble too and did it out of SPITE. They could have easily said they didnt remember youre name or they didnt want to name names. Why would the manufacturer need your name??? It doesnt make sense. You did the right thing and Im glad you stood up for yourself. BTW I wont be surprised if this post is pulled at some point.

I went there over the weekend and was so dissapointed. I am a plus size bride and when I called before I went they said 'we have tons of plus size gowns' well when I went they had 3 for me to try on!! While I was trying on dresses the lady I was working with (I cannot remember her name) just left and started helping someone at the counter. There was someone else helping the other customer but I guess she wanted to but in.

I was still in a dress just waiting for her to try the next one, which was only was one more for about 15-20 minutes! I asked for the designer which she gave but would not give the style number so I went on the site and the dress was not there! It was over priced anyway. I was so dissapointed because I live in Hauppauge and went all the way there because I was told they had TONS of dresses.

Im so sorry this happened to you. Its usually higher end places that treat people like this and it isnt right. I hope youve found better places to shop for your dress. No one deserves to be treated that way

exactly - THANK YOU.

I am sure this will get pulled i mean, we're only allowed to say nice things about vendors, not the ugly truth about the scandalous ones.

Hopefully I have reached enough people and they'll tell two friends and so on and so on.......... just like the shampoo commercial

Good for you! Like I already said-the salon did the right thing by the manufacturer but not by you. There is no need to use your name for any reason what so ever...what does your name have to do with them selling gowns lower? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!!!! Besides which I am sure there is some random pathetic law stating that they cant give out your personal information unless noted. SOOOO they did wrong either way, giving you name has nothing to do with anything-you order the dress you become a number-they dont order the dress with your name on it, the designer has no idea WHO is ordering the dress or what you are paying for it-idiots!!!!!!!

Well you reached me!! I was going to go to Lilettes next week to order my dress, but now I'll just go somewhere else. I already know tha I love the dress and it's a Maggie, so I can just order it from the million other places that carry Maggie dresses.

So glad I read this post!

BTW, I found most of the women to not be all that nice or helpful in lilettes and the place was a little dirty

Re: RANT - Lillette's - UPDATED

I have had mixed experiences with Lillette's but ordered my dress there anyway . They were one of very few stores who carried my designer (and the only one with a sample of my dress), they are conveniently located, and they had the best price.

I found that their prices (for brides and BMs) were much lower than the other bridal shops I looked at, although their service was somewhere in the middle.

I do think that they were right to let the manufacturer know (they set threshold prices for a reason) but I do think they could have tried to handle things differently. It's hit or miss with the employees there -- some are great, some are awful.

Well you reached me. I may go there to try on dresses, but will definitely not be naming other salons....and will not be buying there. Thanks for the heads up!
