So I have friends that I keep in touch with through facebook or myspace and check in with once in a while. So I had like 4 people from college tell me they were enagaged and it was awesome and I would check in to see how their planning was.
Then recently I kept seeing captions like 'so upset' or 'can't believe it' and now they are all listed as Single.
Whats going on? I feel so bad for them...they had countdowns, and RH booked and now nothing.

thats too bad but i guess sometimes thing just dont work out as u have planned
well...i dont want to cause any bad discussions but sometimes people rush into things...i am not knocking you younger brides...i am 31 and most of you dont know that this is actually my 2nd marriage. Its my first wedding though so i guess its why i feel so comfy with you girls....like its truly my first time. Things happen...beyond our control...sometimes its being too young...sometimes its cheatin bastards...i dont know....its terrible though. i am just thankful that I honestly know that i have nothing to worry about. that my fh is truly with me....we will get married but lets face it...no one ever knows the future...as much as we are happy and in love....if you heard my story! OMG! most of you might know my story from seeing it on the news...i dont even know why i brought it up....there are just so many things that can make a relationship end... ....my final statement...as wonderful as it is...love is not enough to make it work.....its just not...

I honestly think wedding planning tests your relationship a bit and some couples don't survive through it! At least thats my opinion!! Alot of stuff can happen i guess. FH had a friend that was engaged and they went to precana and realized that they just werent on the same page and broke it off.

it's awful and sad when an engagement ends, but I have so many friends and family members that have gone through divorces and watching them go through that is really tough. This is my second engagement (I called the first one off - which is the best thing I ever did) and let me tell you, when it's right, you know it.

I think alot of is is age and maturity and the fact that planning the wedding is probably your first big expense together. Money brings out a whole different side of people.
I don't mean to say that younger couples wont get it right....I just find that a couple of my friends who married straight out of undergrad were more concerned about planning the wedding (a big party) versus focusing on building a marriage. Both are now divorced.
It's sad and I would be heartbroken but I'd rather a broken engagement than a broken marriage.

Some were together for like 5 to 7 yrs and engaged 4 months. I see what you ladies are saying....just feel bad...poor girls.

I agree that engagements really put relationships to the test. Prior to being engaged, me and FH were that ridiculously nauseating cute couple, and now we've fought more in the past 6 months than 4 years. It takes a lot of work and effort to pull through this time, and if someone isn't willing to put that forth, then sometimes it just doesn't work.

not sure if you'll remember..back in 2001 thee was ahorrible car accident in Oceanside where a lambo and vette were 'supposedly' racing and the lambo crashed and killed a man in a volvo. well he also killed himslef so with no one else around to pay..the vette driver got 2nd degree manslaughter and went to prison for 5 years...thats my ex.....

I was engaged previously. I was with my ex for 7 years and engaged for 4 of those years. I thank god every day that we never went through with it. I know that we would never have survived married. I am beyond happy with FH and I hear that my ex is happily engaged as well.
Although somethings are sad, in the long run they are for the best!

That's horrible! Sometimes engagement are contagious and everyone rushes to do it at the same time, even if it's not a good idea. I hope it's for the best.
