FH and I spent the 4th at a friends. As we were walking down to the beach a man on his porch called FH & My MOH some very bad racial slur. I was livid and appalled and I mean I almost went at the guy. FH shrugged it right off and didint let it get to him. We had been fighting earlier in the day pretty bad and I had said some pretty nasty things and at that moment I realized how proud I was of him but how hurt I felt for him at the same time. Like I could kill anyone who tries to ever hurt him and I wished I could take back every nasty hurtful thing I ever said to him. I am so proud of how he's turned out with all the ordeals he's had to go through in life and I feel like this a new leaf in our relationship if that makes any sense. IDK just wanted to share that. I thought I loved him so much already but now I do even more...

It's so sad that people are so ignorant. Good for your FH for not lowering himself to that persons level. ( However, I can totally understand why you wanted to get at that guy!)

I know thats what I was thinking too. This might sound naive but I didn't think people still behaved that way or talked that way to people especially in NY (I mean the guy was pretty youngish) - I would have expected that kind of thing more from older people from the south who kind of grew up during that time. Now I realize that we may face discrimination time to time and I'm glad we're able to handle it in a good way...

People can be so ignorant! Your FH did the right thing! Although it can be VERY hurtful, it's not worth it! Good Job FH!!!!!

It's terrible, but it does happen. It's only happened to FH and I a handful of times, but it always feels like a bee sting when it occurs. We've handled it in the same way - head held high, just keep on moving - because really, if a person is going to come out of left field with an unprovoked comment, who's to say that they will stop there? And why feed into their obvious insecurities, you know?
I'm glad that you guys handled it that way. People are effing nuts sometimes.
(And I was naive too, until it happened the first time...you don't expect it in NY, much less the city, where this has happened to us.)

I'm sorry you both had to go through that. People are really insensitive and just ignorant. But I'm glad it brought the two of you closer and that something good could come out of the situation.
