When you ask someone to perform a reading at your ceremony, do you give them the reading, or do you let them pick?

the bride and groom pick the readings before the cermony. if its s catholic mass, the priest will give you a book with selected readings in it

The bride and grom will pick the readings from the selections their officiant gives them.

Thanks. I should have been more specific - this is mostly a civil ceremony.
