Ready to give up and not even have a wedding... UPDATED!

UPDATE: We are booking 10/30!

Thank you all for your advice and support. It's been such a stressful few weeks. Now I am looking forward to planning my actual wedding (instead of my wedding date!)

PS - FH called FMIL to tell her, and she started suggesting other RHs. Seriously? She started naming all these other places we should check (all of we we have and are mostly out of our budget). Also, she suggested we look at late next year, even though we told her we'll be priced out of most places because they give you better prices to fill the upcoming dates they haven't booked. Her response to that? Well, by then you'll have saved more money. WHAT?! We don't WANT to spend more money. And let me remind you, they are not giving us a dime.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi girls. I’ve been lurking around for quite a while and wanted to introduce myself! FH and I got engaged in March, after being together more than 6 years, and are currently trying very hard to plan a wedding for 2010. An outdoor CH and maybe outdoor ceremony are very important to us, as well as photos outside with greenery and flowers.
I apologize in advance for how long this is going to be, but if I don’t vent, I am going to explode…
After 2+ months and 25 RHs, we found one that we love, and that is within our budget (we are basically paying for the wedding ourselves). Obviously, only certain dates are available, and since it’s such a short time frame (as opposed to 12-18 months out), we asked family (aunts, uncles and cousins) and close friends if they were free, and it’s been hell ever since.
1. 10/10 (before we picked the current RH) – FH’s Friend B is getting married that day and just told him now! They are having a small “family” thing, but FH’s Friend J is going! (FH is a little hurt Friend B didn't tell him at least)
2. 10/2 – FSIL has a triathlon (she is semi-pro) and would be locked out of the circuit until 2012 if she didn’t race. I want to be a biotch and say too bad, but I can’t. I'm not that mean. Plus, I don’t want drama. (she's a BM). Also, FH’s Friend B can’t come.
3. 11/20 – FH’s Friend J can’t come. Weather will be cold, definitely no greenery.
4. 10/30 – FH’s Friend B can’t come. My Friend S can’t come. Also, we are concerned about the weather and photo ops.
Here is where I found out my dress will be in much earlier than expected.
5. 8/28, 29 – FH’s Friend J can’t come. My aunt and uncle are bringing my freshman cousin to college that weekend.
6. 9/5 – FH’s Friend B can’t come. And I am nervous about Labor Day. I hear 'that's great, it's a 3 day weekend!' and 'no way, people go on vacation that day'...
Many people have said, 'don’t ask us, do what is right for you and we will be there!' Other people tell us 'don’t try to accommodate other people, it’s your wedding'. But what I think is important to clarify is that we’re not doing this to accommodate these people for THEM – we actually want them there and would be sad if they weren’t.
Also, people keep saying, well, why don’t you just plan ahead for late next year so people are free? We have considered that (even though I am sick of waiting and I want to get married sooner rather than later) but what most people don’t realize is that the price will jump big time. The only reason we aren’t priced out of the place we’re looking at now is because we’re booking in a short time frame. The same dates next year would be $20-30 more pp.
I just don’t know what to do anymore. I can’t focus on work. We both can’t sleep well. And we are getting into little fights everyday about this. I am seriously ready to call the whole thing off. I can’t keep doing this. I get my hopes up and we find out someone is busy. I can’t look at any more places. I am so stressed. I’m on WW and gained weight for the first time last week because of all of this.
Again, I’m so sorry for the length – I applaud anyone that’s made it to the end. Thanks for listening girls.
If it's causing you THAT much stress, to the point that you can't sleep and you're considering calling it all off... wouldn't it be better to make a concession to yourselves on any one of those things you metnioned?
Personally, I'd do the Labor Day thing. I understand people have things they can't reschedule (marathons, other weddings) but few people have made Labor Day vacay plans already...
People who are important to you and you're importnt to them.. they WILL BE at your wedding. and if they'd rather plan a vacation that weekend instead of the 14 other weekends they could pick over the summer... well, are they really worth working around then? I say no.
PS, it sounds like this 'Friend B' of FH's is a real thorn... he's precluding half the dates you're considering! I know he's important, but more important than having the wddding you want when you want?
I am sorry you are so stressed. I really do think you have to pick a date in which you can accomidate the most pple and if someone cant come even if they will be missed u still hafta proceed. It may be impossible this yr or even next to accomidate everyones schedules.
If I were you I would do Labor Day. You can't plan your wedding around everyone else's schedule. Honestly, wouldn't you rather have 1 person not be able to come than call the entire thing off and not have anyone there?
I'm so sorry this is happening to you.
I would do 8/28 or 9/5...in the end, you have to do what is best for you two. I know you want those people there and it ***** that they won't be able to be there...but no date is going to be good for everyone you want to be there, as I'm sure many past brides can tell you.
Do what you can to give yourselves the wedding you've always wanted...people will come.
Why are you trying to plan your wedding around other people????? You'll never be able to pick a date that way. Someone will ALWAYS have something to do. You can't make everyone happy.
Pick a date that YOU AND FH want, and book it. We didn't ask anyone what days they'd be available before we booked ours. If people care enough to be there, they'll be there.
I'd book for next year. The prices don't jump if you book now.
This is what I was originally thinking... but then I figured they were telling her that the prices will be more... if she's planning within 6 months, the prices might actually be cheaper now that halls are tryin to get rid of the leftover dates and fill their schedules, KWIM?
ITA I think this is her situation. My RH tempted us with a spot that would give us about 6 month to plan for a great deal. The deal, of course, doesn't apply to any date more than 8 months away they said.
this might sound like a crazy idea but how about planning the wedding for august or september? i know it's very soon but it's enough time (only 'problem' is that you'll need to pay a rush fee for dresses and whatnot)
my friend planner her entire wedding in 4 months so it's def do-able ...
HTH ... best of luck!
ITA! Do what you gotta do and what works for you and the FH. It will stink if some people cant make it to your wedding, but when the time comes and all your family and close friends made it there for you at your wedding, you wont even notice who couldnt make it and whose not there.
I'm going to say what you've already heard... you can't, absolutely can't plan your date around other people.
No matter what date you pick I'm sure there is going to be at least 1 person who you'd love to attend who can't. That's life. Esp. since it's 'short' notice.
Imo you shouldn't focus on the friends who can't be there. If your going to ask anyone of their availability it should be your immediate family members.
Re: Ready to give up and not even have a wedding...
pick a day that you LIKE and can AFFORD at a hall you LOVE and dont worry about who can and can not make it.
Trust me, FH and I went to 17 halls and contacted countless others and were SO stressed over everything that I was making myself sick. if someone can't make it to your wedding... oh well. I know it hurts and su cks... but if you try and please EVERYONE, you'll never get married.
what I suggest is that if someone can't be there- what about doing a live webcam thing? webcam info
good luck!!!!
I agree with everyone else! This is your wedding.. do what is right for you and your hubby to be,.. if people would rather be running a marathon then attending your wedding they shouldn't come.
In the end.. everyone who would want to make the effort to be there will be there.
its true you really cant accomodate everyone, pick the date thats best for both of you and thats that. if your really set on doing outdoor ceremony/cocktail then if it were me i would wait till the fall and check spring dates of 2011, this way you still have the short time frame
ITA
I feel your pain - I am having mine on Memorial Day weekend to avoid the million christenings, first holy communions, college graduation, high school graduations and sweet sixteens that are in my family (they accosted me when I first got engaged saying that I couldn't do it on x,y, or z weekend because there was one of these family things to do - FH and I were not happy). So - I picked a holiday weekend where there would be none of this stuff. It actually worked out better in the end as we have a bunch of guests traveling and it was easier for them to travel on a 3 day weekend.
Dont listen to anyone else and work around everyone else's schedule...it will drive you nuts (as I see it is already starting to). Good luck!
Even if you plan further out, there's no guarantee all of those people will be willing/able to save the date. We sent our STDs out well in advance. We had some people tell us that they'd definitely be there, only to RSVP no for one reason or another when invites go out.
Obviously, you can't plan the wedding for a day that you know FSIL can't be there, but as to other friends and non-immediate family members, just do the best you can. After all, I doubt Friend B is losing sleep over whether his plans are affecting you.
