I am getting texts from FH about his friend asking if guests can come after receiving the STDs????????
WOW - I told FH tell them word for word. If they are not public with the relationship or with them less than 6 months ;
they are a NO go

Re: REALLY?
So annoying and I completely agree with your rule! We are also only inviting guests for people in longterm relationships or for people who don't know anyone else at the wedding. I had to message one of FH's friends the other day who was complaining on Facebook that he needed to find dates for all of the upcoming weddings he was invited to. I politely let him know that it would be better if he came solo rather than finding a random date off of the streets. Save his friends some money!

Re: REALLY?
Agreed. Obviously if they're in a serious relationship, the significant other is invited. But if it's under six months, they really shouldn't expect anything.

Re: REALLY?
some people are just totally ignorant with some things. I guess if you don't 'know weddings' then you don't know protocol.
But I find it hilarious that the friend is trying to get a date so many months in advance!!! They must really be worried lol

Re: REALLY?
I just removed most of my 'plus ones' and do not plan to bring them back to my guest list unless someone gets VERY serious, engaged or lives with the significant other.
They have 14 months to make that happen, otherwise they are invited SOLO.

LOL! I wonder how many people start scrambling to find a relationship when they get a STD just so they can have a date to the wedding!

Re: REALLY?
Oh goodness! People are very ignorant and it might be because they have never been to a wedding before. Most of my guest list I think I am their first wedding ever so I am scared how that is going to go.

Re: REALLY?
Ha! I can't wait for all that to start! My FHs mother is already inviting her brother +5, sister +4, etc. Coworkers + 3
I told her... 'you have a limited amount and that's it.' We're paying for the wedding ourselves 100%. So... people need to keep that in mind.
So, when it comes to STD's.. I need a guest list. If it's 20 STDs for her 100 people, then it is what it is. (The family is like 500 people though, so they need to keep that in check )

Re: REALLY?
This still BLOWS MY MIND!! I hate these grown adults that ask the 'can I bring someone' question, soo rude!
When we got engaged (literally a month after) we hadn't even looked at halls yet, but one of my FH friends, who we barely see might I add actually told me 'can you not invite too many people to your wedding so I can bring someone' I wanted to flip when I heard that. You wanna bring someone get into a relationship.
People are just so rude and stupid, its not a house party why should anyone spend that much money on your date of the week!
-ahh sorry guess I had a lil venting out too with this topic LOL

Re: REALLY?
that is ridiculous.
Plus, i think it's pretty typical to not indicate whether or not someone is getting a guest on the STD. I'm waiting for the formal invitations for that.
I hate how people feel they have the right to dictate who comes to your wedding. I can't wait for others to get married and start realizing how much that extra person costs.
anyway. good luck dealing with those people and i'd just respond to them, well we haven't finalized the guest list in terms of +1's, we'll let you know when the formal invitations go out.

Re: REALLY?
They won't have to ask the question with the response card saying how many seats are reserved..... SO rude of them!

Ok, I'll speak for the other side. Granted context and attitude are important... but I think it's not automatically a rude question for OOT'ers to ask. I mean, if I need to travel (which always means fly, living abroad), I need to know whether I'm buying one plane ticket or two. I can't assume FH is invited if he's not listed on the STD. But I'd really rather not wait until the invites come out to book flights. Which only leaves the option of asking nicely.
well in your case I think you fall into the rule of thumb when you are traveling offer them the option of bringing a guest. Also when you know there is a s/o you invite them also.
But I think they are talking about the total single friends who live in your neighborhood who wanna bring their flavor of the month, at least that's who I was talking about LOL

you have a really good point about OOT'ers, Sarah. I agree with Shannon, i wasn't event thinking about OOT'ers in this case, I was thinking of the local friends, as in 'can I bring someone' vs. 'should FH make travel arrangements as well'
I guess for me, in the case of OOT'ers that may be traveling with a SO, that SOs name will be on the envelope (even for the STD) since they're really more than the 'and guest' of that person.

Re: REALLY?
My feelings exactly, but FH feels like we cant not invite people with dates. I could understand if we had a friend coming to our wedding who didn't know anyone or knew them very little why we would invite them with someone else, but if we have a group of friends who all know each other and you wont be the only single person there, why should you have to bring a date especially if it's going to be some random person nobody knows (or worse for some of FH's friends: some hooker? :p).
