So i have my final hall meeting last night, and we were going over everything, and we get to the topic of the place cards. So i tell him how im making the votive place cards to which he tells me 'oh well, you can do them, but we cant light them' *** is the point of putting all my effort into making them if they cant be light. I called them up months ago to make sure i would be able to use them and they said of course no problem, apparently leaving out the fact that they wont let me light them. So now i have to come up with an entirely new idea for my placecards and i have all these darn votives at home that i cant use......if anyone needs them, let me know, ill give em to ya for cheap.
ok vent over.

wait - THEY can't light them, or they won't allow YOU to light them?
Is it a time issue, or a fire issue?
I remember when we were looking at halls they said it was dangerous to have the place cards lit candles since people would have to carry them from the table by the door to their table and that created a fire hazard. So maybe your hall has the same issue. You can still have them just not lit, then leave lighters on the table so people can light their own!
Thats not a bad idea....

They have enough time, and if they didnt, my DOC could take care of it. But they are refusing to let me light them, because like i said, they dont want people burning themselves.
I have 192 votives.
AND you have a DOC and they won't let her take care of it??? That's ridiculous.
Tell them that your DOC will light them about 20 minutes before the CH ends (so they won't be too hot) AND put cute sign in a frame (I actually have a cute poem for this if you want me to FM it to you) saying that the guests should use caution when picking up the votives.

Yea they wont let her do it either, because of where they are placing them..the guests 'have' to pick them up before CH, they wont do it after ..i asked them that last night. im just really annoyed that they told me i could, and left ouf the fact that they wont let me light them. im really glad that i didnt start assembling them yet.

That is insane - they should have told you up front that they wouldn't let you light them. I would call and ask to speak to someone else - tell them you spent the time and money on them already, and it's unaccpetable that you were given inaccurate information. You asked if you could use them and they said yes.
I agree, it's not your fault you called MONTHS ago and were told you could use them light.

OR...you could get some matchbooks made up for the table...

You can't even use the battery operated one's? I know that would just be another expense for you though. It was just a thought.

I could use those, since they wouldnt burn peoples hand, but they are kinda expensive, and i have alot of them to buy. im still trying to figure this all out, i may do the match books, but have to see how expensive they would be. thanks for the great ideas girls

Re: really annoyed at my hall
how about using them as place cards instead of escort cards? (Having them already sitting on the table lit?) and doing one framed escort sheet, or what ever they call those large posters with guest seating arrangements listed...

I would flip out on them too... They should've told you that in the beginning when you first asked... What's the point of telling you now after youv'e bought them!

wow! i so dislike when BM's at halls lie!!! That is one of my biggest pet peeves, if he wouldve told you that you cant light them when you called them before then there wouldnt be a problem since you would know not to invest money and energy into them

OK, maybe it's just me, but since I first saw the votive placecards on this site, I've been wondering how people are supposed to avoid burning themselves when they pick them up. I agree that they look beautiful in pictures all lit up, but I'm not sure how practical they are. Has anyone been to a wedding where they used these? Did you burn yourself when you picked up your candle? Just wondering how it works....
