really upset (latest edition of my internship saga)

So, all my interviews are over, and I'm waiting until Match Day on February 25th to find out whether or not I matched with a site. (I ranked 9 sites in my order of preference, the sites rank the applicants in their order of preference, and we get matched by computer. )


I just got home from my externship to find a rejection letter waiting from me from my first choice internship site!

Sites don't need to inform applicants if they are still under consideration, and I wish they didn't. I'd rather rank my sites, and find out whether or not I'm matched on match day. I'm really nervous about not being matched

Don't worry I'm pretty sure that with all the qualifications that you have, You will be matched.

Their loss for letting you slip by!! The right internship will come your way! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

For those who don't know...I'm getting my PsyD in school-clinical child psychology. Next year I will finally be done with classes and on full time clinical internship. The competition for sites in NY is VERY competitive. I applied to 16 places and got 7 interviews (two of the sites had two different tracks, making 9 places for me to rank).


On 2/25, everyone in the country going for these internships finds out whether they are matched with a site. On 2/28, we find out where we're placed.

If you're not placed, you go into a clearinghouse of sites that dont' get matched with applicants, and you scramble to find a placement for next year. I'm hoping not to reach that point, but it's very likely that I will.

That's the very brief version of the process...

Everything happens for a reason I truly believe that. When I had to do my students teaching, I wanted Kings Park or Northport. Northport was not taking anyone so I was placed with Kings Park. But then there was another applicant that needed to be placed in Kings Park instead due to handicapped access. I was so bummed (I totally understood but still felt bummed) and I was placed in another district. Little did I know the teacher I was placed with was one of the most respected teachers in our discipline in NYS!!!! She had even been asked by NYS to make a series of videos on how to teach our discipline.

Ok so I am babbling. But everything happens for a reason. I was completely bummed by losing Kings Park but in the end had a much much much better student teaching experience because of it. I was hired very quickly because of whom I had work with and she helped shaped me into the teacher I am today.

Your right match is out there. Don't get discouraged!!!

Well, I can say I totally understand what you are going through...I went through it last year. I am currently an intern at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, but this time last year, I was a mess!!! All I can say is what everyone already has said, it will work out and you will end up where you are supposed to be even though it may be torture for the next couple of weeks. It probably doesn't help at all to hear that it will be ok, but at least know that you are not alone in your feelings. I didn't get interviews at sites that were my first choice and ones that I thought were a guarantee. Then, I only interviewed at 4 sites when all my supervisors had told me I was an outstanding candidate (what a blow to my ego!!), but in the end all my stress and anxiety(and there was a lot of it) was unnecessary because it only took one site to match! And, I am so happy now. it couldn't have worked out any better. So, hang in there the next couple weeks...you'll make it. And one word of advice, drink a lot of wine the night before match day, it makes you sleep a lot better

Jackie you will definitely get matched! I understand your stressed, I would feel the same way, but it will be fine. I have only met you briefly, but between that and reading your many posts I feel like I 'know' you. It is apparent to me, and I'm sure the people that you interviewed with, that you are very intelligent and a hard worker. I would even go as far as to say, I'd put money on you getting a match!

Jackie, I'm sending lots of positive thoughts and crossing my fingers that you get your 'match' .. you work so hard and truly deserve it!
