we have found a coop that we LOVE - its close to work, its a great price and deep down, i know we can afford it
im scared to commit to something like this... anyone else feel the same way? We both are full time employed with great jobs - im just afraid of having to scrape the barrel to make ends meet with saving for the wedding and paying a mortgage...
how many of you ladies are doing it?
i have found the coop of my dreams - i just hope we can make it work - we're going to look at it again tonight!
here are a few pics

It looks beautiful!!
I think if you can make it work, you should do it! We bought our house a little over a year ago, we were nervous, we knew we could afford it but would have to cut down on extras. It has been so worth it!!!! It just feels great to be putting $ into our own mortgage insteadof some one else's.
Good Luck!

Don't bother with a real estate agent. Why waste more money? All you need is a lawyer.
BTW that place s gorgeous!!!!! Go for it!!!!
FYI...as a buyer there are no out of pocket expenses to you to work with a REA unless you hire them as a buyers agent (which is very rare). REA generally get paid from the seller.
great apt. FSBO sales happen everyday, nothing to worry about. get a good real estate attorney and you should be fine.
Yup, a buyer pays nothing to have a buyer's agent!
A buyer will pay to have a buyer's agent but not to use a REA to help her find a house - the REA is working as a seller's agent then.
The place is really nice! If you can afford it and think you will be there for at least 2 years, then it is worth buying! Good luck!
thanks for the advice!! our seller isnt using an REA as an agent though

Re: reassure me girls ...
We bought our co-op last Nov!!! Well we placed the bid last July or Aug., it takes about 3 months for it to go through. They do thorough background, credit, and financial checks! Its an investment though! We love our co-op! We even have a small lake for a backyard
Here is a photo of our backyard!

This is the best time to buy if you can afford to. I agree with the other girls don't bother going through a RA if you dont have to. If this works out for you then having a RA will be pointless. Good Luck the place is beautiful!

Re: reassure me girls ...
it looks beautiful! Go for it! I feel the same way about finding a way to make ends meet,,,,, but your going to have to do it sooner or later! You'll find a way to do!
I would love to tell you great things ... and investing your money is a great idea .. however is there anyway you can find a condo instead of a co-op ??? I am actually waiting to close on my co-op this is the 3rd contract I have been in and it was a nightmare to sell because of the board and my place is all done up new! ... i was there 4 years and everyone was in my business .. nosey nieghbors.. nosey board! hopefully your co-op is different but I can't wait till it's out of my hands! too many rules and you dont even own your own apartment .. you own 'a share' ... If you dont mind a co-op then the place looks nice go for it!! it was good for me for the time i was there but a headache to get rid of !!! Goodluck with your decision!! Sorry for the pesimistic post

We own our co-op, where are you looking to buy? I do think it's a great idea. Clearly none of us have an extra $300,000 (or whatever your co-op costs I'm just throwing out #'s) so it never seems like we have enough money to buy a place to live. In reality, if you don't buy it now you're only putting off the inevitable. I think it's a great investment

Re: reassure me girls ...
It's a great feeling to purchase something such as realistate. FH and I were nervous as well. Somehow you just do it and your satisfaction comes from just knowing that it's yours. Everything else falls into place. (but don't get me wrong.....there will be bad months and good months) Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: reassure me girls ...
As an older first time bride.....who rented for 14 years, I think you should go for the co-op. You will biuld equity, have a tax write off. A co-op is differant than a condo but I have a co-op now. I got it 10 years ago. It has more than tripled in value since I first got it. I understand the anxiety, but I think it truly is your best option. Good Luck whatever you choose!!

Re: reassure me girls ...
I agree with DINA who talked abotu condo vs. coop, but if you are ok with buying a coop then I say go for it! RE is the best investment you can have. My FH and i bought a condo back in august. It was in terrible shape, we fixed it up. I took us until december but it was the best investment ever. You will ALWAYS get your moeny back!
