Receiving Line

Receiving Line

I was in one of my best friends wedding last month and she had her receiving line right after the ceremony and before the pictures. One of the things that sucked is that she had a lot of older red lipstick wearing relatives and both she and her husband had to do some serious repair work right before the pictures! He had 2 or 3 little ones and she got a big one that literally needed soap and water to get off! I felt so sorry for her! My sister's wedding is coming up and she feels she has to do the recieving line (my parents think it's a BIG deal) but really doesn't want ot have to deal with repairing makeup etc.
Did anyone else get lipsticked on their big day? What's a good way of deflectiing that well meaning kiss? Did anyone just scrap the receiving line period?

Re: Receiving Line

the way i forsee it is either do the recieving line with the fewer amount of guests that attend the church

or

have to go to all 17 tables at our reception and take a considerable amount of tim eout of the partying

so even with lipsticki ssues , im gonna do receieving line

i think receiving lines are a waiste b/c its not like you are having real conversations or anything - its all the same few lines that ppl say to you - 'you look beautiful' - 'your ceremony was beautiful' - ect ect. Are you having a cocktail hr? Can you make your rounds there? Once ppl have drinks in there hands and a plate of food they are not going to be looking to grab your face and kiss you.

We didn't have a receiving line and the plan was to make the rounds during the CH, but then DH took off on me (he forgot about this carefully executed plan) and I just kept getting stopped and didn't meet up with him again until the reception started, so we ended up going around to tables anyway.

It is so easy to get seperated, just try to stay together until you get a chance to greet everyone if you don't do the receiving line. I didn't mind being seperated from him for parts of the reception, but I had to keep dragging him back to say hello to each table - my friends kept pulling him out on the dance floor.

I am not having a receiving line..My parents aren't thrilled but we don't have the time to do it..

Church is at 2:30 and because the time changes the day before we get married we need to hall a$$ so we can make it to Planting Fields and get some good outside shots..

I will just have to make my rounds during the wedding...

The photos was the main reason we didn't do the receiving line. We had a 3:30 mass and wanted to get some photos done in the daylight.

We had a receiving line, that's the beautiful thing about holding your bo-k, guests couldn't get too close to my dress or my face for that matter. I kissed guests on the cheek so they couldn't kiss mine really, many of them didn't kiss me FULLY on my cheek where it left marks, if they did my mother would have wiped it off.
