Receiving line...having one or not?
I am getting married at the Watermill. Is it important to have the receiving line? Can't decide about this one....

Receiving line...having one or not?
well, I don't really like them, but I am probably having one. It is a way to say hello to everyone and thank them for coming. I don't like the way they look!! It makes the church too crowded and it takes up a lot of time!

I am also getting married at the watermill! I really feel that I am paying for 5 hours I want to enjoy them and I don`t want to have to recieve for an hour instead of dancing. On the other hand people like to say goodnight and congratulations so it`s hard, I am going to take part in my cocktail so I hope to get that overwith then and I am going to do a birdcage type idea, it`s a malbox decorated with silk flowers and tulling (sp??)where people can slip the card into it. Even if you do decide to recieve it`s a nice place to put in if people give to you before the end of the night.

my sister didn`t want to have a receiving line...
..but it didn`t work out that way! She got married at her hall, and when they arrived at the cocktail hr, it just so happened that my mom and I (MOH) were standing next to them, and before you know it, all the guests had formed a huge line! It was really funny..... so, moral of the story is that people like tradition, and it takes them a while to get used to doing things differently!

deciding too
just went to a wedding and they didn't have one...while I saw the bride and her mom and her brother...it took me until I was leaving to see the groom, so I think I am going to make a short ceremony and have just us 2, moms and my dad(maybe - he may opt out of it) I know I will get flamed for saying I want to rush through my ceremony, but I don't care. I am not big on ceremonies and want to get to the party!

i agree, we have a smaller wedding, so we intend to walk around a lot during the reception and cocktail hour and thank them for coming, so why not get right to the party!!

I'm sorry - I might have not been clear! We have to take our pictures immediately following the ceremony b/c we are not seeing each other prior to the ceremony. So, while everyone else is in cocktail hour, we will be taking pictures. If we did a receiving line, we would not have time to take pictures!

receiving line
ive always thought the rec. line was on the way out of church? I plan on maybe having just me and my 'husband' (oh my god) on the line to make it go quickly, I don't know. I love the birdcage idea though, standing there saying goodbyes to a hundred people who are leaving early during the end of the biggest party of your life has got to stink!!

having one
We are getting married in a church and we have time between that and the reception, about 1 1/2 hours so we will have one plus we will still have time for pics. Plus we have so many people comming from out of town we want to make sure that we thank each and everyone of them for comming.

now im confused
I guess there are 2, one after the ceremoney and one at the end of the reception where people give you their cards, I didnt want to do the end of reception one because thats the best part of the night, as far as the ceremony i guess if i dont have after the reception i should, how long does it take? I have 3:30 church and cocktail hour starts at 6 20 minutes away I need time to take pictures!

tarakimspa...
I have the same times for our church and our coctail hour. Are you having a full mass at the church?? And about how many peole are you expecting?? We are not having a mass so I think it shouldn't take longer than an hour. And we are only expecting about 100 people or so...so I'm thinking the receiving line should only take about half an hour...so I expect that we will finish up at the church around 4:30 or 5. Which would leave us almost an hour for pics. What do you girls think...does this timing sound about right???

receiving line
I think if I were getting married in a seperate location I would have one, but now Im thinking I do have to take a few pics...I would go around at dinner anyway so I think you can do with out and people usually come up to you to give you the card...Welcome New Vendors
