When within your wedding day are you going to be having a receiving line. I am reading that if you have over 50 guests you should definitely have one.
What are your thoughts?

Re: Receiving line -Who's doing one and when?
Thanks for posting this.
I have no idea what to do. I don't have much time after the cermony to take pics before the sun goes down so I really don't want to spend daylight time in the church. But I also don't want to spend an hour doing this at the reception. I figured I will just say hi when I can. And make an effort to go around to the tables and say hello. Is that bad?

Re: Receiving line -Who's doing one and when?
We did it as we were leaving the church. We exited first and then we stayed at the entrance of the church so that as everyone was leaving we got to greet them. I think that's how most people do it. If you're not getting married in a church, usually you will walk down the aisle and then stand at the back where you can 'receive' your guest. Some people don't do it to save time if there's not a lot of time in between the ceremony and reception, but i think it's rude not too. JMO you can cut down on the time by just having you and your parents in the receiving line and leaving out the BP. that's what we did.

I am going to have our's when we exit the church as the people leave the church we will be lined up. I will have my cousins at the door handing out the bubbles and once we are done, we will come out into the bubbles!!

whenever i've gone to a wedding where the ceremony is @ the place, they never have had a receiving line. we are not doing one simply for the sake of pictures and time!! i want to get right out and go to planting fields. people always underestimate how long it takes--especially if you get the parents and the grandparents and the bridal party involved-you'll waste 45 minutes. you can greet everyone @ the reception--and if people come to the church who aren't invited to the reception they will just have to understand! We are going to have our Pastor announce it or put a little tasteful blurb in the programs!

WE did it after the church. I think you can forego it if you plan to visit everyone at their tables at the reception.

no receiving line here. although i think my grandmother will have another etiqutte heart attack. with 125 people at a destination wedding where we are spending the whole weekend together, i don't see the need!
ETA: Plus, there are always people who feel as if they can dominate your time and attention and hold the whole line up, despite pleas to keep moving. I don't want my guests waiting on line to do anything!

Not doing one... we are geting married at the catering hall. MY mom is deceased and my Dad is disabled from a stroke... he would have to sit and he can't really speak... he can only say hello but if any of my FH's guests asked him anything he wouldn't be able to respond... I am his voice and it would be more work for me and kinda cruel fro him because it would just remind him of his disability. We are doing our pictures before the ceremony so we are going to make 'the rounds' during the cocktail hour.

We are doing one after church. It will be me and FH, and our parents (and his stepmother). I might add my grandmother if she wants to - she is the only grandparent alive on either side.

Re: Receiving line -Who's doing one and when?
at my friend's weddign they & the the BP came out fist & we ( the BP) stood around them & blew bubbles as peopel walked through the recieving line.
At my cousin's they stoodd at the back of the church, and greeted people as they walked by, then went back in for pics , then came out peopel threw birdseed. The problem with this is that it took so long & soem of us left, b/c it was gettign dark & the receptoin was far awayfromteh church that was in in a wooded, hilly area we weren't familiar with.
Other friends left the church firstbut cme backina side enterance to take pics. Then they came out , people blew bubbles & then they didn't really have a receiving lien, they milled around instead. I liek this idea but when they came out they shoudl have mad ealittle more efort to go around to peopel. Instead we had to go up to them & teh bride as mostly just talking with her mother.
Not sure what we are doing, b/c our church is right on Jerusalem avenue- no lawn or parking lot to mill around in to wait for us to exit.
I wnet to 2 without any at all, and oen was gine we saw teh groom before hand b/c they had coctails befor ethe cermony ( ceremony & reception at a vinyard) & the came to all tables later. The other one, they had too many people & I barely saw the bride. The groom came by a little more. And since they didn't do introductions of the parents or prgrams or a receiving line, so I had no idea who their parents were!

I am doing it after the church also. Not 100% sure who will be in it except me and FH... I guess our parents?

We're not going to do one. We're taking photos before the ceremony, which is at the reception hall, so we will be able to walk around and greet people during our CH. My cousin had her ceremony and then the recieving line during CH and people wound up missing half of the CH waiting on line to say hello.

We had one right after the mass. It took a bit of time and I was so surprised at how many people came to the church. Then we were able to race off and take our pictures under the Brooklyn Bridge.

We also wanted to save daylight for pics after our March afternoon wedding, so we did ours during our cocktail hour. I was glad we did it, but remember that you'll probably have to say good-bye to everyone you say hello too - we had an impromptu goodbye line form as well (which meant we didn't get to eat dessert!).
