We just started looking for reception locations all over Long Island (haven't actually looked at any yet except online) and all I can find is tacky rooms with colorful carpeting, floral chairs and gold everywhere which is neither mine or my FI's taste. Any suggestions would be very helpful of a place that's more neutral/plain where we can decorate it however we want. Please help!!

Re: Reception Locations HELP!!!
If you're willing to go to Westchester Id suggest checking out The Greentree Country Club. www.greentreeclub.com. There is no carpeting there at all (which was a big + for me!!) the entire ballroom has gorgeous porclein floors! and you have a beautiful view of the LI sound and the walls and curtains are all white!

Flowerfield is amazing. North Shore's best kept secret, we so did not want carpet, cheesy etc...check it out!

Re: Reception Locations HELP!!!
That is one of the reasons I picked Land's End. The walls are very bare and the decor isn't overdone.
The bayview house at Capt Bills has a very simple beautiful vibe. It is almost all windows and personallY I thought it was gorgeous (my second choice, but FH didn't like it).
Good luck!

Sorry, I just reread your message. George Washignton Manor and Milleridge would not be neutral or plain at all, so scratch these suggestions.
You can try Carlyle on the Green. Their space was beautiful--not neutral or plain exactly, but a lovely space IMO. Not tacky at all.

Re: Reception Locations HELP!!!
Oh, I totally agree that a lot of the places are over-the-top and not in our taste. In total, I've looked at a dozen places and thought most of them were gaudy. My favorites were San Souci, Hamlet Willow Creek, and Land's End.

I disagree with GWM. The reception room is all windows, hardwood floors and white walls. Any color scheme will do. I have never been to Carlyle but I have heard wonderful things about it.

Re: Reception Locations HELP!!!
I posted this a while ago. I hope it helps. It's under this: http://www.liweddings.com/chat/topic.aspx?ID=227003&P=4
Here is my reply. Good luck.
Where do I begin???
Sand Castle Floral Terrace Watermil Leonards East Wind Majestic Gardens Ariana Waterfall Chateau La Mer Crest Hollow Fox Hollow Jericho Terrace The Meadow Club Villa Lombardi's Thatched Cottage
& I think I'm missing two more locations.
Ended up with the SWAN CLUB
I felt really good that I did my shopping. Fiance and soon to be sister in law helped a lot!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even one of our groomsman came with us
Without offending anyone!!! Here are my own personal thoughts on the venues. Hopefully this will help future brides who are still looking. Ladies, I will say this again...My opinion & my intent is to help those who are still looking!!!!!
Sand Castle- One of the best interiors!!! I loved their inside and the fact that you have a castle theme. Only problem we saw was the parking lot. You have to walk from the ceremony location through the parking lot. Not a biggie. Price was good! Floral Terrace- No out door which was a have to for me. Their interior is also very beautiful! I also didn't care for it being on the corner of a busy street. Watermil- Latest ceremony was at 1:30pm for the day we wanted. A big no-no. We wanted an evening wedding. Everything else is beautiful. Leonards-Beautiful interior. Not a big garden. We felt that their base price was cheap but it lacked a lot of things!!! By the time you keep adding on you have a big bill. East Wind- Almost booked them! Loved the price and the garden estate!!!! Only problem was that it was toooo far for us and our guests. It's near Majestic Gardens. Majestic Gardens:Loved it!!! But too expensive and just as far as the East Wind!!! Worth it if you have the money. One wedding at a time, a big plus!!! Ariana Waterfall-Great package price for a tight budget. Didn't need to go inside. My Fiance saw Wendy's next door and said, 'No.' Chateau La Mer- I really liked them at first but then I thought...If it rains, then the whole idea of the boat ride goes down the drain. Also, I went to their food tasting and didn't care for the way they spoke to me. They spoke as if they were reading off a script. Food was great though!!! Crest Hollow- A bit pricy, plus you have to pay extra to have your cocktail hour outside. Nice outdoors! Fox Hollow- We both liked it. Jericho Terrace- We both liked it. The Meadow Club- Didn't like the way we were treated, long story. Didn't care for how it looked either. Villa Lombardi's- Their menu wowed us!!! I really liked it. It was on our top five list. Thatched Cottage- The pond by the place was beautiful, but their backside needed a paint job, they needed new chairs, and a new carpet. Swan Club-I loved their gardens, price and location. They were also the only location that had the exact day and time we wanted, a big plus. Their interior is not as fancy as the other halls. A possible negative: Up to three weddings at a time and you can bump into other brides. I'm still hoping this doesn't happen to me.
