I need a little help and advice for finding our reception site... I didn't think we were being that picky but after going through magazines and reading these message boards, I'm getting a little nervous.
We just moved to North Carolina so we're waiting two years until the wedding. I thought I'd be fine but I've called a few places and found out at least one is booked for my date. So now I'm feeling a little overwhelmed and would like to look at at least one place when I'm on LI next weekend for a bachelorette party (I don't think I'll have time to see more than that unfortunately).
Here is what we're looking for: we'll have about 250-275 guests, we want to spend around $100 pp, we need to have the reception on site (I'd like to do it outside but it's not necessary), we want everyone to be able to sit at the CH, on the water would be nice but isn't necessary and we want to be the only wedding at the place. Is that being really picky?
I'm very interested in Eastwind but can anyone tell me the story there -- there is one wedding at a time at each little location? Can you see the people at the other locations?
Any suggestions of places would be great! So far reading this board obsessively has helped me rule out a few places, you guys are really helpful. Thanks in advance!

Re: Reception site for picky us
Hi there! I definitely know the feeling b/c I am planning from California and everytime I have a doubt about my reception site, I can't just go in and look at it.
I have heard alot of great things about East Wind from other girls on here. I didn't look at that site b/c it just didn't seem like my taste b/c from the pictures, I thought that it had a country kind of feel. And I don't mean that in a bad way, b/c I have heard that it is really classy and beautiful. Just not my taste.
Its hard to find a place where you are the only bride, I have noticed. I don't think that the place I am getting married at will hold that many people, but you could check it out. I also heard alot of good things about North Ritz Club. Good luck!

I think you could see more than one - the FH and I were doing 3-5 a day. I thought that the Millerage Inn and Carriage house were actually really nice - and they should be able to fit your amount of guests - if you call you could get them to send you the price list. Also in that area are fox hollow, westbury manor and crest hollow. You just drop buy and they see you - no need for an appt.

Yes, NRC is fantastic. It holds that many ppl and the price is good. They are really accomodating with out of town brides, as I am one. I definitely recommend that you check it out!

I really can't see more than one because I'm dragging two friends with me on our drive from the party in the Hamptons to the airport. Based on time and rudeness issues, I'm thinking I shouldn't go to any more than that.
I was hoping to find one in Suffolk , Port Jeff CC and the Harbor Club were my tops but I'm afraid we have too many people!
I want to find a North Ritz Club type place further East...

You could try to call Old Field. They have one wedding at a time and it's on the water. I don't have the number but I think it's located in Stony Brook. I went to a wedding there a few months ago and it was great! The decor is country-ish so I don't know if that's your taste.

Old Field looks perfect but they can only accomodate up to 200 people.
And Georgios is the one that was already booked!

Majestic Gardens looks really nice (I know it's ridiculously picky but I think the name sounds cheesy), I'll put it on my list to call.
Flowerfield is definitely out of our price range, I wish it wasn't. Lands End is at the top of my list right now though...

I don't think you're being picky at all! You want what you want and your paying alot of money to get it-nothing wrong with that! If you are looking out east you could try Hamlet Willow Creek in Mt. Sinai or Stonebridge Country Club in Smithtown Good luck planning!

Port Jeff CC will probably tell you they hold 250 but DO NOT listen! I am having 150 there and am worried my ceremony will be tight. The reception room will hold about 200 but that is with 12 at a table which is a really really tight squeeze. The place is beautiful and I am excited to get married there but I do not recommned it for a wedding that large. Also I am pretty sure there prices are way of $100pp now that they are open.

Try Chatau La Mer in Lindenhurst. They have a very plain website but you can get a good idea of what it looks like. Its on the water, plenty of room to sit for the CH, and the food is really good. They have an outside patio for the ceremony if the weather is nice with a gazebo. O, and if its working, they wisk the bride and groom off after the ceremony and you arive on a boat. Its a very nice touch.

Lands End is a great choice for you (yeah yeah I know I'm biased ). It has all you are looking for. I am not sure about the price though. If you are willing to do a Sunday Afternoon, Evening or Friday Night in the months of October, November, December, January, February, March, you can get a better price.
Maybe also look at Chateau La Mer, Harbor Club, Vanderbilt Mansion?
Oh great! These are all great ideas, I'm looking them all up now... Thank you! I'm really set on being the only wedding though, I could talk the FH into paying more for that.
Thanks for the info about Port Jeff CC -- this is the kind of stuff I really need, I'm just not sure which banquet managers are exaggerating about their amenities. Does anyone know about real numbers at the Harbor Club?
Our date is the Sunday night before July 4th, Lands End quoted me $105, which is doable. Which leads to another question -- when they gave you quotes over the phone or in person while you were looking, how much does your actual price resemble that quote?
