Hey anybody else bummed out about a honeymoon in this economy? I was really looking forward to an awesome honeymoon but FH lost his job awhile back and in this economy doesn't seem like it will come back anytime soon so our honeymoon ideas got kicked to the curb. Anyone else have this problem? Or have any low budget suggestions?

Re: Recession Honeymoon?
I am in a similar situation. When FH and I got engaged we knew we would pay for the wedding ourselves and knew that we didnt want to spend a ton of money but now with the economy-FH's business is suffering so we have no honeymoon at the moment. I am very bummed because it was my dream to go to Hawaii. Now that is out of the question. The only upside to this is that FH has family in Puerto Rico so we can go there but we will have to stay with his family. But we can be beach bums which we love to do. We will live off of $1 empanadas lol. At least we will be in the sunshine.
I hope things get better for you!

Re: Recession Honeymoon?
We're not going on ours until probably 7 months after the wedding...partly for weather reasons, but also to get our act together monetarily with an apartment/house. We want to go to Greece, but I'm having serious doubts that it's going to happen, because it's SO expensive to go to Europe. Same kind of deal...FH has family there, and I'm sure we'd be welcome to stay for a few days, and that is our game plan for the time we intended to be in that area, but definitely not our idea of a good time for the ENTIRE time.
I'm just hoping things start to turn around.

Re: Recession Honeymoon?
We are having that issue as well, my dream has always been Hawaii or as of recently Bora Bora. Both Fh and I both work except that my boss doesn't pay me! As of this thursday he will be a month behind in payroll! So it makes everything harder in trying to plan anything with the wedding and honeymoon, especially since we are paying for everything!

Re: Recession Honeymoon?
What about staying somewhat local? Like cape cod or even montauk? It cuts out airfare and that can be at least $1000 for the 2 of you depending on where you were going to go.

Re: Recession Honeymoon?
We're going to base whether or not we take a HM on how much we wind up making off of wedding gifts. . .we REALLY want to close on a home before November 30th since the tax credit deadline for first time homebuyers is that date, and we were planning on using wedding gifts for a down payment.

Re: Recession Honeymoon?
we're going away for 5 nights, 2 in boston, 3 in Maine, then going away for 2 weeks next year, we don't wanna spend money we don't have, we'd rather do something small now and save the big to-do for later!

Whats sad is I am only working because I care about the patients I see, but he (the MD I work for)obviously could care less about us. Oh and he actually had the nerve to pull up in a brand new saab convertible the other day!! All while telling us how the insurance companies dont pay him! Any lawyers on here? I would appreciate any advice!

Not to hijack the thread, but I thought it was August 31st?

Re: Recession Honeymoon?
It's very hard.. we budgeted for the honeymoon with the rest of our wedding expenses but I still think we are going to have to find something a little cheaper.
Look around on cheapcarribean.com ... FH and I got an AMAZING deal for Puerto Rico last summer and they had a special where they took an additional $200 off the price of the trip and they have deals like that ALL the time. The whole trip (food and flight too) cost us around $1000, actually I think it was less. We stayed at the Intercontinenal which was BEAUTIFUL ..it has its own casino but the El San Juan is right next door and also has a casino..theres a few hotels along the strip. There are a ton of nice restaurants and a few clubs inside the hotels too. But since we didn't have the money to go and promised we'd cut costs everywhere, we ate at cheap places which were right up the block, literally some were across the street. There was a Burger King, Pizza Hut, Subway and a really cheap diner. There was even a grocery store like two blocks away and a rite-aid with frozen foods.

Re: Recession Honeymoon?
I know this totally s ucks but what you have to keep in mind is that no matter where it is or for how long it is, your HM is still your HM. All that will matter is that you are are finally Mr & Mrs. The actual trip, while very nice, is not the important part.
