Re: registering

my wedding will not be until spring 2004. right now we have not even set an official date because we are still looking at reception places, but people are already asking us if we have registered because they want to get us engagement presents. i plan to wait until i at least set a wedding date! i think that you can still wait a while before you register. if you really want to you can register now for some non-decorative type things like appliances and cooking stuff and wait until you decide how you want to decorate for the rest of the stuff.

Re: registering

I registered almost a full year before, but I lived out of town and needed to get started. I did a lot of registering online too, so that I could add items after I looked around a bit more.

I don't think you have to wait until you have a place to live. We were still renting when we were married, but I didn't let that stop me from choosing items that I would love to have in my own home someday.

Try to have fun with this part - as daunting as it can be - it can be fun, too!

Re: registering

Don't worry about how your decorating so much, you can just register for necessities that don't require color like you pots pans and basic needs. I figure if people buy us these for our wedding, then I can just buy the towels and things at a later date when I pick the colors.

Re: registering

I am getting married next September and registered about a month after we got engaged. We basically just picked out some appliances and china. Sheets and towels and decorative stuff we will add later on when we know where we're going to live.

Re: registering

We registered pretty early for our everyday dishes, china, and crystal (maybe a year in advance)

The we added everything else and registered at Crate and Barrel about 6-9 months in advance..

Re: registering

I registered about 14 months ahead of time. Fortunoff's said 12 months is about right - anything more and you risk your patterns being discontinued, sold out, etc. Already 1 set of our towels and one pot have been discontinued

Re: registering

We registered about 7 months before. It helped with engagement gifts...people were able to shop off our registries which works out great!
