I voted no. I didn't register for my E-party and I don't think it's necessary. I still got gifts but mostly ca$h (which I was happier with, BTW). I don't think there's anything wrong with registering unless you include the registry info in the invites -- big no-no.

Re: registering for engagement party poll
I thought it was rude to register for it, and I read a lot of sites that said not to. We got mostly cash as well, and that was better for us because storage is a problem.

I don't think so. By registering IMO you are blatanly asking for gifts. Your engagement party should be to celebrate your engagement. People will give you gifts if they want to.

Re: registering for engagement party poll
I didn't have an engagement party, but we registered for some stuff shortly after being engaged. mostly gift type stuff like a crystal vase, lenox frames, crystal bowl....we also did our china...
i had relatives tell me that they wouldn't get me a gift until i registered because they wanted to get me something that i wanted and didn't want to give cash.
we actually ended up getting 5 places settings, our everyday silverware, vase, bowl, and tons more. it was great because it was all stuff that we had wanted...we didn't have to worry about returns...
some of our friends actually ended up using the registry for christmas gifts too...we thought it was funny, but it works...we both live at home so we need everything under the sun...
we still have to register for other stuff like bedding and small appliances which we willdo soon.

Re: registering for engagement party poll
My engagement party was very small with close family members. I registered for a few things because my mom said family members were asking her for gift suggestions and if we registered. My suggestion would be to register for a few nice things nothing too expensive. For example, vases, picture frames, that sort of thing. Don't advertise it, but if anyone asks if you have registered, you/your mom can say yes. I agree with jimmysbride though...i would not tell people or put it in the invitation. It's more for if they ask you.

We registered before the party because family kept asking us too and we figured since we need EVERYTHING we might as well start getting plates, forks, toasters, etc.

i would regestier but don't put it on the invites... if someone ask what you would like, then you can tell them you are registered here and there

Agreed! We registered shortly after we got engaged even though we did not have a party. I personally like to send a congrats gift to people and I like it to be something they want/need.

Re: registering for engagement party poll
I would BUT I wouldn't announce you have it unless someone specifically asks about it - I think IMO by NOT registering you are implying that you ONLY want money and some people are NOT comfortable with that - I have only been to one e-party where the couple didn't register and the guests were all commenting that they were fishing for money. Honestly MOST people will bring some sort of gift to your e-party solicited or not - and this way you are giving your guests something to choose from.

Re: registering for engagement party poll
I said no bc I would rather the money and then get the other things at my shower
It also depends how far before your wedding is...many things will be discontinued before the wedding comes...it happened to me and I had to change some things

Re: registering for engagement party poll
We registered before the engagement party but didn't advertise it. People were pestering my FI's parents. My family gave us cash. Plus, Not everyone will give monetary gifts, and at least we received gifts we actually wanted. Plus, registering is a pain in the booty, got it done and overwith before planning got crazy..JMO

Re: registering for engagement party poll
I didnt have an eparty, but some people sent us a card with a check in it.. that was really nice of them.... Usually in my family you dont register for the eparty.. most people give $$... that way you have a chance at affording your dream wedding

This happened w/ me as well. and then my family threw us an engagement party (which we didn't find out about until a couple of weeks before it) and at least 5-6 people bought us stuff from it.

Re: registering for engagement party poll
I voted no. I think an e-party should just be about the celebration and if people want to give you something that's fine, but shouldnt be expected. IMO by registering now when the wedding is a year and a half away it is telling guests that gifts are expected. JMO
If you do register, I agree with the people who said not to put it in the invites.

I voted No. IMO - asking for gifts. And if you think about it registering so early might cause problems anyway. Say that you register for casual dinner ware and then the pattern is discontinued then you might end up getting a few table setting and then have trouble getting the rest. We didnt have e party, but we did send out announcements. People asked my mom about gifts and she just told them the stores that we like. We ended up getting $ and gift cards to Macys, Pottery Barn & Crate & Barrel

Re: registering for engagement party poll
I'm all for registering. We registered right away for a few things we knew we wanted and would always want (Casual and formal china, silver, etc). We're only going to have a small e-party. So far we've gotten mostly cash and one thing that wasn't on the registry. I decided to register early because:
1) I already knew what China patterns I wanted.
2) A lot of people started immediately asking if/where we were registered.
3) My sister didn't register for a while and when her gifts starting coming in , none of them were what she wanted (it was mostly crate and barrell stuff from her DH's family, who don't know she like delicate stuff)... and I think it's hard when people send you gifts you didn't want because you have to go through returning them, or the embarassment of them coming over and expecting to see thier gift, or asking you about it and you've returned it. I think it just makes it easier on the guests. It's not really begging for gifts unless you advertise. They'd have to ASK to know you have registry and if they've asked, they wanted to buy you a gift anyway. JMHO.

Wow, that's really early. With your wedding over 2 1/2 years away, aren't you worried that your china patterns are gonna be discontinued? Especially if you don't get all of the settings for your e-party. You probably thought about this, but if you didn't you should check in with the store periodically to see if there are any plans to discontinue it that way it will give you time to buy the rest settings before they do.

Re: registering for engagement party poll
Well, my patterns are both Lenox, Butterfly meadow's been around awhile, and if I hear it's going to be discontinued, I'll just buy all of it! As for formal, Lenox Pearl Innocence is new, but definitely not going anywhere! it IS early, but believe it or not, the day we went in to register, we ran into my aunt who was there trying to print out my registry!
