I didn't have that much fun doing it either. I am not a big shopping fan -- I know, odd, but true!
So for me, it was more torture than fun.

Re: Registering = HELL
Has anyone else had to fix FI's fun? My FI seems to enjoy scanning random items because he thinks it's funny. He scanned 4 stand mixers the other day telling me that it'll allow me to make 4 different kinds of cookies, from scratch, simultaneously. Later, he scanned a huge, stuffed bunny because he thought, 'it would look good on our bed.' I end up having to delete tons of things after we get home.
Oh well, at least he's amusing himself.

Yeah!
At first it was fun, until I got criticized for registering for a $100 expresso machine. I like coffee!!! I would totally use that!! Then some relatives told me I didnt register for enough'nice' stuff, and other relatives told me where I could get better Bargains.
Then I have another person telling me step by step how to make sure my towels and shower curtain match. (Im not that slow, thanks)

Re: Registering = HELL
For the most part it was fun, mostly because I went by myself. I asked FH if there was anything he wanted to help me pick out and he said no. I already inherited my mom's china and had everyday dishes that were barely used.
I don't listen to anyone's comments. People kept saying, 'Oh but you guys are older and your FH was married once before why do you have to register?'
First of all his wedding was his ex's second so it was small and she didn't get much. She took nearly everything in the house that wasn't nailed down when she left (I swear if she could have taken the paint from the walls she would have). FH and I had to go to IKEA and buy inexpensive stuff the day she finally cleared everything from the house (the divorce was going on for a long time and she wouldn't get her stuff out). He didn't even have one pot. What she left is not my taste and it felt creepy using the stuff they got for their wedding. I've seen all of my other friends get married and have showers isn't it my turn now as well?
Don't listen to anyone. Register for whatever you want. If they don't like certain things then they don't have to buy them. I love the comments people make. I like my dishes, you don't see them everyday I do! They can always get you a gift card.
Ladies don't let the comments get you down. Your day, your way- LP

Re: Registering = HELL
I'm with ya, I hated it, I almost started crying in the store cause there was so much stuff and I didnt know what to choose. And I was totally naive about how much some of this stuff cost and I was like 'I cant ask people to spend this much?!!!' But I started to do it online and it was so much easier and a lot less pressure. I got most of it done, just have to wait till closer to the wedding to do bathroom and bedding :)

I loved it at first and then I would get bored. So we would leave the store and go back later. Just take it in stages.

I agree with you. We have gone three times to complete it because it is just too much to do all at once. It is just a big argument waiting to happen. We just went on Sunday and we had an argument over a Simpsons clock he wanted to add to the registry.

Re: Registering = HELL
I didnt bring him. He said that china and silverware mean more to me and I'd have more fun going with my mom than with him. . . and you know what? he was right!!! My mom oohed and ahhed over different place settings and glasses. I normally make decisions very quickly but this took much longer than I thought. I was glad FH wasn't there cause he would have driven me crazy. When I got home I showed him the stuff online and he stuck to the script, saying 'You did such a wonderful job picking out beautiful things.' could he pick out our china if his life depended on it? not a chance. . . but do I care? not a bit!
Do some of it online - it's much easier to shop when you're sitting at your computer with a drink in your hand and your in comfy pajamas!

Oh I agree. I thought it would be fun, everyone said it would be. But first you have to find only a couple of places that have stuff you want, which never happens for me. Then you have to agree with your FH. Then there is the whole 'Will people really spend this much' thing.
Then after you do all that, the store stop selling it by the time your guest shop for you.

Re: Registering = HELL
I didn't really enjoy as much as I probably should (I love shopping) only beause I am the type of person that if I need something I just go out and buy it. Also, my FH and I both lived on our own for 6 years in our own apartments so we pretty much have everything we could possibly need and have no clue what we would want our future bathroom or kitchen to look like.
I went with my sis and she was incredible. She basically facilitated everything and we got it done rather quickly. Oh and not to mention that my adorable nephew (about 4 months at that time) came and I couldn't concentrate on a thing but that adoable baby smell and his smile! Distracted by an adorable baby...priceless!

I thought it was so much fun! Dont think so much about what you are 'supposed' to put on it as much as what you WANT to put on it (which for me it was everything!).

Re: Registering = HELL
For those that hated their registering experience:
Register online! All the major places allow you to create your registry online. No worries about gun hogs (all those FHs out there). You can totally adjust things from your house and not have to deal with crazy stores on the weenkends.
I registered almost all my stuff from home and then for things that I needed to see, I would stop in quick to linens and things, macys, fortunoffs and check the stuff out. Then when I got home, I added it to the registry!
Good Luck...remember this wedding planning stuff is supposed to be fun!

I enjoyed it...think the hardest part was deciding on bedding and everyday dishes.

Re: Registering = HELL
I have put off registering for this exact reason. I feel like it's going to take forever and be very stressful. My FH is like just register for whatever you like, I'm sure I will like it. So he's no help, and if I take my mom she will drive me crazy. I think I might go alone and do it a little bit at a time, but I'm not looking forward to it at all

Re: Registering = HELL
FH and I had a lot of fun registering, but we did it a bunch of times- not all at once. We still go back every now and again to update our registries, but mostly we manage it from home.
Maybe you went with too many people with too many different tastes- your FH and your mom? I noticed several brides at fortunoff's were registering with just their moms, and to be honest I found it a little strange. Don't get me wrong, I'm super close with my Mom, she's my best friend...but your registering for your wedding presents with her? Nah- these are the things that are going to be in your home with you and FH, so you should make these decisions together. JMHO

Re: Registering = HELL
I did bring my Mom. and she didn't give her opinion at all....I just wanted her there because FH and I had tried to go a couple of times and just wandered around clueless. We didn't know what to get, how many of each, etc. I needed Mom for that info!
Also, I am a little leery of registering online just because I like to be able to look at and touch things before I buy them....just a little quirk of mine!

Re: Registering = HELL
I'm not saying register for towels or china or anything like that online (I wouldn't do that myself), but electronics are no big deal. I did a lot of research (consumer reports and the like). at least that way you could register for some stuff online, and it will be less confusing in the store.
Also, pick a specific thing that you want to register for when you go to the store, like bedding, and ONLY do that on your trip. it won't take too long that way. Also, do some research before you go, and grab a salesperson while you're there and ask any additional questions that you have.

I didn't think registering was fun at first. But then we bought our house and one of my best friends helped me out so much that it actually was bearable!
