I am getting a lot of grief (from my mom) about registering. Our wedding is 10 months away and I was hoping to postpone the registering until October/ November. My mother thinks I should register NOW, (BTW my shower is in mid March) she thinks people would like to buy things early before the holidays. My concern is if I register now, what's to say the items are still going to be in stock.
What did you guys do? Are you registered already?

You can register whenever you want. If you register at BBB you get email updates if an item is being discontinued this way you can change the item and update it on your registry. Once you register you can always go online and update it

One of the first things I did was register, worse case, you just go online and fix your registry up.

I registered 2 weeks after being engaged. My friend said if you hav a registry now people instead of give you other gifts for birthdays and the holidays they can shop of the registery. I already got my pots and pans for my birthday from my grandparents. But it is totally up to you.

register whenever u want. 2 months b4 ur shower is fine. i registered a few months ago and my wedding is in april.. no1 buys anything.. u end up looking at ur registry everyday and it gets boring lol

MOst likly your fine china and sterling silver will be there so I would start with that .Dont do bedding, towels that changes every season

we registered in April, 1 year before our wedding. my mom & FMIL said it was too early. however, we went during spring break because FH is in school all summer & this fall. also because i work full time & the stores are too crowded on the weekends.
we went to Macys on 34th street. we met up at 1:00 & didn't get home until 9pm. it was a very long process & we had to go back on a saturday morning anyway.
so its totally up to you

We registered within a month of being engaged, because people were asking. A lot of people bought us registry items for our e-party, and I figure some people will buy stuff for birthdays and holidays too.

ummm my wedding is 500 + days from now and we are registered in 3 diff places...lol
havent gotten any gifts yet, but our housewarming party will be in 1.5 months.

we registered b/c people were asking and we are having an e-party and if people wanted to get us something we wanted to have something set up.
In my experience, the things that get purchased 'engagement-y' related are the vases and bowls, and less dishes and bedding.
If you want to set up a small registry to get your mom to stop bugging you, it might not be a bad idea, and then really go for it when you are ready!
