Registries

Registries

I read on the board that you can return items you received from your registries for cash.

What stores do this and do I need a gift receipt etc?

I really just want cash but hope to get around it by registering.

I live in an apartment and have no idea what I will need in two yrs when I move to the burbs.

Thanks

Re: Registries

I am confused.........you want cash and registering is your way of getting it????

So basically your going to register..JUST so you can return the items for cash??

Not to sound rude, but I would pissed if I spent my time and money buying a gift off a registery only for the person to exhange for money.

I am sure you will get some cash from guests...

you can return registry items at Bed Bath & Beyond for cash. I dont think you need the receipt, but not positive about that.

I am just in shock since I have never heard of someone registering just so they can exhange the gift for cash....

Good Luck!

Re: Registries

i would prefer getting something that said 'monetary gifts preferred' with a cute poem explaining that you have what you need for now.

Cause I agree with rosaria that when i give a gift i try to be unique and personalize it.....and i would be annoyed if i knew it was just getting returned..... JMO

But like I said...make a cute saying on teh invite
Good luck

Re: Registries

I dont live in a house yet and have not need for many items people resgister for. My parents house is already full of my stuff.

I want to give people an option but in the end I will most likely return many of the items.

I rather cash sorry. Maybe its what NYC has done to me.

Re: Registries

I thought people had a belief that its rude to ask for cash in any way even if its a poem.

I am not telling people I am returning their gifts. Its not like they'll come over and ask if I can make them bread from the breadmaker they bought me. well at least I hope not.

I dont think anyone is saying there is anything wrong for needing/prefering cash at your shower.
They are saying instead of registering for gifts and people will go walk around the store trying to be personal and pick something you will really love/want/need you should just be honest and ask for the cash so you dont hurt anyones feelings or waste peoples time.
You can come up with a cute poem to put in the invitation saying/explaining that it is cash gifts only.

Re: Registries

Thanks I hear what your saying.

In essense the gift you buy someone from the register is a gift they already picked form themselves. I get people like pans and other things and I am always like I would never use this but I buy it bc its on their registery and they wanted it. What I am trying to say is going to a store for a gift from someones registry isnt that thoughtful, at least I dont see it that way. Returning a gift for something that is more useful makes sense to me. Sorry everyone doesnt have the same point of view. I also am a bargain shopper and my friend works for Federated that owns bloomingdale's I rather take my cash and buy items at a discount then have people paying full price off the registery.

I'd be pissed.. if I took the time to go to a store, print out a registry and wait in line to pay and found out the person returned the item for cash. Why bother taking the time to register? If you feel rude asking for money, register for a few items you will need and have your family spread by word of mouth that you really need cash and not gifts

Re: Registries

You can also put on your registry that you would like gift cards too...that may be an idea...I know Fortunoff does that and perhaps BBandB so atleast you don't have to return things you can use the gift card to buy something that you really want

Re: Registries

I say, create one small registry.

If all of the items are purchased, people will probably give you cash.

When my step-cousin got engaged, she registered at Macys because her mom worked there. Her mom sent coupons to EVERYONE. Sure enough, everything was purchased.

So, for those of us who went shopping after the registry was empty, we decided to just give her cash.

Thanks for you input. Hopefully people will use the same logic.
