registry rant

registry rant

I'm most likely the only one thinking this but I'm dreading making one. FH and I are comfortable where we are and I'm not sure when we'll be house hunting. I don't really want all these household items stacking up with no place to go right now. Am I just being a crazy Debbie downer or did anyone else get this feeling?

I was that way too. We don't have a place yet. But we're going to a registering even at Macy's next week so I poked around online...and now I'm hooked, haha.

We have no idea where we are living after the wedding either but have started a registry for Christmas in the meantime for which we got items off of. Originally I was going to get a storage unit and put all the gifts there but then when I priced them I was like that money each month can go to wedding stuff so I'm just going to clean out one of my closets and use it for storage.

My brother was the same way. What he did was just use my parents living room and we had boxes on the couches for at least 6 months lol. Maybe you can put everything you want, and store them elsewhere until you find a place?

Don't feel bad! We are living with Fh's parents in their basement, and we have no place to put anything. We plan on moving out right before the wedding into an apartment, so we can actually use whatever we get from our registry.

You don't have to register for that many items, just what you need. Make it a fun experience :)

We just moved in together and it's a really small apartment so we don't really have room for much. We have a lot of mismatched stuff, and we plan on moving soon after the wedding, so we registered for 95% of what we actually need and then I threw in a few items that I knew I would use when we have more space in the future.

FH and I both had apts of our own. We merged into a new apt last year.
We don't need much, so we are only requesting what we need or want to replace. Case in point, I am using my Mom's 6 slice toaster oven from the 70's. Still works great, but since it is so old we figured we would be safer with a newer one.
We have every day dishes, but not a full set, so we are asking for a specific pattern so we can get a full set and donate the current set to Lupus, Big Bro Big Sis, or the Veterans. At least this way we aren't throwing out and may be helping someone else.
FH had a roasting pan that the Teflon was flaking off of. It is poisonous in this condition or if it is scratched or scarred deeply, we registered for a new one. Until we moved in together, when he had to use it he would line it with Aluminum foil just to keep us safe, and slow the decay of the pan.

You could have a honeymoon registry if you haven't booked/paid for it already.

Take a good look at what you have and see what you need and what you might want replaced due to safety or want. You don't have to go overboard, you can be quite practical about it if that is what you are concerned about.

Either way it is your decision, we can only tell our stories and make suggestions. Good Luck.

I have no clue what to do with the registry as well. I have no intention of getting any gifts so my bridesmaids suggest that I do a honeymoon registry. But isn't that the same as asking people for money? That's pretty awkward!

FH and I also combined two apartments when we moved in together several years ago, so we now have a lot of extra toasters languishing in boxes in the garage. We're planning to do a small 'stuff' registry and then use a site like http://www.honeyfund.com/ to ask for honeymoon donations. At first we felt awkward about it, but we're going to put neat 'items' in the registry, like, Snorkeling trip for 2, canoe rental to cruise around a specific lake, etc, so that people can feel like they are buying specific events or memories. It seems like that's getting a lot more popular these days. I think it's fine to do something like a honeymoon registry as long as you have a small 'things' registry so that people who don't want to contribute money can feel like they're getting something tangible.
