The post office worker (and her equally apathetic supervisor) told me that 'the post office no longer hand cancels mail. That is an old practice that is no longer done.'

When I complained to her supervisor's boss I was told that they would hand cancel that batch of invites as a 'courtesy' but that it was a one-time deal, as hand cancelling no longer exists. Complete BS.

Oh my G! That's the same one I went to that told me hand cancelling no longer exists.

my invite is a 5 X 7 pocketfold invite. no ribbons or embellishments on it. very plain. do you all think i need to have them hand cancelled or can I just throw a stamp on them? will they get ruined?

please give me some advice... thanks!!!!!

you still have to stamp them beforehand. hand cancelling is just to prevent one of the post office machines from putting those grey bar codes directly on them, which also happens to press and squeeze your invites in strange places. i went to manhasset post office and they let me do it myself. it's just an added precaution, but your invite will get to their destination regardless.

I just threw stamps on mine. They were fine, and they did have a ribbon on them. They made it just fine No one even notices, trust me.
