I am pricing rehearsal dinners and they are all about $35-$40 pp without alcohol. I wanted to just do bottles of wine on the tables and limit it to that, but I was told that is cheap and looks bad if people want something else to drink. Suggestions/advice?

We are having 40 people at $30 a head, that includes unlimited wine, soda and water! I really did my homework with the RD. I called a million places until i found one that had everything, including cake and coffee, included.
But to answer you question, IMO i dont think it looks cheap to have bottles on the table and that's it. you do what you can afford, nothing more nothing less. These are your close friends and family, they aren't going to leave the place saying, can you believe they only had three bottles of wine!! Plus it's only dinner, it's not going to be a five hour event! Good luck, and congrats!
Where are you having your dinner? That is an amazing price! I can't find anything less than $50.00 a head with wine and beer.

Mine is at Sunset Harbour (East Patchogue) - $35 with cocktail hour, salad, pasta, choice of 3 entrees, cake, and soda, coffee, red wine, white wine, white zinfandel, and 2 draft beers.

We are paying $40pp which includes unlimited wine, beer, and soda. I don't think putting just wine out is cheap at all. I have been to many rehearsal dinners where there was only wine and soda being served. Also, as someone mentioned above, try to see if the restaurant will let you pay cash. We are paying cash for mine and it ends up being easier for them because it's off the books.
