FH and I have a huge bridal party and we are anticipating about 40 people for the rehearsal dinner.
It looks like FH and I will also be footing the bill, so we need some ideas of a fairly reasonable place in Astoria/Long Island City that will host a party this size and offer some type of buffet deal of sorts.
Does anyone have any suggestions/recommendations?

Okay, in LIC there's this big mom&pop Italian Restaurant called Cassino, it's on 47th Road and Vernon Blvd. It's like old school Italian food your grandma would make (well if she was Italian). They have a big room in the back and it's very inexpensive! We go there all the time and Dh had my brithday party there..not sure if they do a buffet, but worth a shot.

Oh...I had no idea Portobello had a separate room! I will definitely call them!
I called Mezzo Mezzo and they told me that they could give me a cheap menu for like $25 pp so that's not TOO bad.
I don't know--I just feel like it's going to be SO expensive with so many people. An extra $1000 is a lot of money!!
Remember to count drinks and tip, I had a 30th Bday party for my FH at Mezzo in September. It was 25 people and we had a $38.50 per person menu so with tip that was about $1200 but we also had a $550 bar bill even though soft drinks were included and their drinks are cheap. I guess we had a crowd of big drinkers!

I love Akit but its very small for a big crowd like that. How about the back room in grand.

also wanted to say something about the restaurants mentioned. I love riverview but its pricey and water edge can be a bit pricey too. Great choices though but both places can get expensive
