Re: Rehearsal Dinner Ques
you SHOULD but i am not
FH's dad has two brothers, both are doing our readings.
FH's mom has siblings too SO if we invite the two uncles and then NO ONE from FMIL's family that will look funny and we can't afford to invite ALL the aunts and uncles SO we decided to leave them out and give them their gifts another day

Re: Rehearsal Dinner Ques
Hm ok. I have to think about it. Its likely that they will NOT be family members doing the readings, so I wont have the 'if I invite him I have to invite her' sort of situation.

Re: Rehearsal Dinner Ques
I am inviting my readers. I would think most people understand that the rehearsal dinner is for the people who are rehearsing... at least that's what I believe it should be! I know a lot of people invite OOT guests too, but personally I don't think it's necessary. It can turn into a much bigger event than it should be... almost as big as the wedding! I am a bigger fan of doing a morning-after breakfast for OOT guests to have a chance to talk/visit before they head home.
Also, since the rehearsal dinner is normally a day or two before the wedding, it might force some OOT guests to come into town earlier than they might've planned to. Extra nights = extra costs for them.

Re: Rehearsal Dinner Ques
One of my cousins is a BM but we're not inviting her parents (my aunt & uncle) to the rehearsal dinner b/c a) they are not participating in the ceremony and b) then I would have to invite all aunts & uncles. I'd rather keep it smaller... just the people who have a role in the ceremony will be invited. And our parents & siblings, of course.

Re: Rehearsal Dinner Ques
I really wanted to invite the readers to the RD but decided it would be more trouble than it was worth.
Even though I wouldn't have to invite SO's I'm sure I'd hear it to HELL and back. I really don't want to deal with it so they're not being invited.
Plus we figured if we invited them, we'd have to tack on an extra 10+ people we weren't planning on. We already are inviting too many people.

Re: Rehearsal Dinner Ques
Won't your readers be attending the actual rehearsal though? I know if I were doing a reading at someone's wedding, I would expect to be included for dinner. I know it can create more hassle, but I think all of the ceremony participants should be invited to the dinner. With spouses/SO's. JMHO!

Re: Rehearsal Dinner Ques
I've actually never seen the readers attend the rehearsal, but at pre-cana last week they told us that we should have the readers there! So, now I just dont know what to do. I'd definitely invite them w/spouses. I'm prob going to end up inviting them.

Damn thanks for making me think...we weren't plannning on giving them a gift just our undying love
Also, kinda like you said, i've never been to a RD where they actually REHEARSE which is why I wasn't planning on inviting them.

Re: Rehearsal Dinner Ques
I did a reading at my cousin's wedding last year, and I was invited to the RD. I'm inviting mine, I think they should be at the rehearsal so they know when to go up and so they can see the reading ahead of time and get a feel for the microphone..
