Im catholic converting to Greek Orthodox. Im not very religious so I'm okay with it, to raise our childen GO. Its kind of a hard thing to do changing religons ...understanding it. We both want our children to have one religon. The GO is also very into their culture and community .
Also its a dream for his Uncle (who is a Greek Orthodox Priest) to marry us.

FH and I both grew up in Roman Catholic families. I've since become a buddhist and FH is agnostic, so there won't be any religous involvement in our wedding....

Re: RELIGON-CONVERTING
My fh is catholic. I was not brought up anything b/c my mom was catholic and dad was Jewish, they decided to let me choose when I was old enough. My dad wasnt a prracticing jew so I grew up in a catholic family but was never baptised. Well now fh and I both want to get married in a catholic church and I think it is the best idea for me to fully become catholic so I am taking classes at our church once a week for 3 months and I will receive all 3 sacraments on the Saturday before Easter. We are really excited, and it has brought fh and I closer in a lot of ways, it was the best thing I could have ever done. P.S. fh's mom is soooo excited, she cries every time we talk about it.

i am christian orthodox which is what greek orthodox is, and fh is catholic, and i didnt have to convert. But i see you have other reasons for doing it.

Girls who are converting:
i think that is amazing! Congrats to you ladies! what a wonderful gift to give to your soon to be husbands!
FH and I are both Catholic - he does not practice though and I think religion is very important. He supports me raising our children Catholic but insists he won't be a part of it. . .
Anyway, I think its great that you girls are giving your time and energy and converting. . . I dont know if I would be able to do that - I can be very lazy sometimes!

well you might have to if you are getting married in a greek church...see catholics allow other religions to come in and things like that, well christian orthodox is different.
Hmmm yeah i haven't thought about any of that yet, well i told fh we'll see. Thing is i believe in god, but i don't believe in organized religion. The history of the church, how it was started, how priests were picked and all that. So for me its not a concern, we are all gods children and don't think there is a preference by what religion you are, as long as you believe then that is what matters. Anyways i wont get into all this haahahha.

Did anyone see on MTV Engaged & Underage? A mormon bride had her FH convert and his family was not allowed in the church!!!
The mother of the boy (boy meaning he was 20) said 'what type of religon won't let a mother see their son get married'
THAT i wouldnt be able to do!

no way - that was so upsetting. and that little witch didnt understand why his mom was upset?!?!?!
that was a disgrace - not judging anyone's religion . . but i dont know how that boy could do that to his mother.

well as long as you are happy with it and you have strong reasons to do so then don't worry about it...It will be confusing at first but its all one step at a time...good luck

they say that GO and catholic are very similar. I know a couple who was catholic and GO and he didn't convert and they let them get married in the GO church. And they are raising there children GO.
