hey there. I am greek orthodox and FH is catholic. We are getting married in a GO Church but FH does not have to convert.
If you dont want to convert you dont have to and you can still get married in the GO Church

My fh is catholic. I was not brought up anything b/c my mom was catholic and dad was Jewish, they decided to let me choose when I was old enough. My dad wasnt a prracticing jew so I grew up in a catholic family but was never baptised. Well now fh and I both want to get married in a catholic church and I think it is the best idea for me to fully become catholic so I am taking classes at our church once a week for 3 months and I will receive all 3 sacraments on the Saturday before Easter. We are really excited, and it has brought fh and I closer in a lot of ways, it was the best thing I could have ever done. P.S. fh's mom is soooo excited, she cries every time we talk about it.
that's wonderful. good for you!

FH and I both grew up in Roman Catholic families. I've since become a buddhist and FH is agnostic, so there won't be any religous involvement in our wedding....
wow..were are a lot alike..i grew up roman catholic and FH grew up baptist and we both do not subscribe to any religion and we both pretty much consider ourselves agnostic..which is why a priest, minister, etc. will not marry us
i noticed that! . Maybe I'm just not paying attention enought but, did you find someone who will marry you?? I'm still struggling with what I want as far as that goes, my RH has clergy or whatever that I can 'rent' but I feel like we should find someone who's personality suits us as a couple instead of just using any old person.

Re: RELIGON-CONVERTING
No converating here.....atleast for now. FH is Roman Catholic and I am lutheran. We are getting married in a Catholic church, but I do not have to covert.
Once we decide to have kids then we will have to decide what to do. But that isn't for about 5 years so I am not worried

Did anyone see on MTV Engaged & Underage? A mormon bride had her FH convert and his family was not allowed in the church!!!
The mother of the boy (boy meaning he was 20) said 'what type of religon won't let a mother see their son get married'
THAT i wouldnt be able to do!
I am mormon....and my family is not.
It is not that they cant see us married...the temple is a sacred place, and most mormons cant even go inside. Everyone IS welcome inside the temple, you need to be worthy (married or have served a mission). What happens inside the temple is not what you would imagine, its not some big wedding that just non-mormons are excluded from...its a very small room with a few people and you get sealed to eachother for eternity, then there is a ring ceremony and reception AFTER that, which anyone and everyone can go to!
=-)

Re: RELIGON-CONVERTING
My father is catholic my mother jewish. I grew up being a 'holiday whore' which my friends in college named me. I celebrate the holidays and we have our traditions. My parents too also wanted me to be able to decide when I get older. I had a baptism and a baby naming (got a hebrew name and all). But, I don't know much about either faith and feel weird having a religious ceremony. FH grew up catholic but just goes to regular ol' Christian church. I don't know what kind of ceremony we are having but I dont' want a really religious one! We are not getting married in a chuch its just a regular ol' non religious chapel on a lagoon.

I'm Jewish - FH is Catholic - neither of us is converting - we're getting married by a rabbi because FH will do anything NOT to go to pre-cana (he's not practicing)

I am protestant and FH wasn't baptized. Not sure if he's going to become a member of my church but, we do have to go to some meetings before we get married there.

Re: RELIGON-CONVERTING
Religion is a huge part of my life. I go every Sunday. I used to teach religion and I used work with the teenagers at my church. It was important to me to find someone who shared similar beliefs with me. I dated someone who was a different religion and it just always seemed to be a conflict (especially with his mom).
F and I go to church every weekend together and I think that is going to make our vows that much stronger knowing that we really believe in what we are saying and doing in the church.
For you ladies that are converting, I congratulate you. That is a beautiful thing.
Those of you who choose not to include religion, your marriage is just as wonderful as the rest of us. To each their own! We all have to do what is right for us. No one is right, no one is wrong. Its what you heart feels and believes.
