When we met with the officiant for the wedding she asked us about special remembrances and of course I wanted to specifically mention my dad. Then FH wanted his grandparents and then of course I wanted mine mentioned ( his 4 are deceased and three of mine are deceased). Officiant said maybe too many and just mention dad as it't my dad, really immediate family.
We are having memorial candles with all names on it (dad and grandparents) to rememebr them.
Should we just specifically mention my dad by name at the ceremony also? I tend to think that is best and not make it longer like it's a role call
thoughts??

I would DEF mention dad at the cermony... Grandparents can be included on the candle but woul dget too long at the ceremony. maybe you could do donations in their names for favors or something

I think if I was in your position I would specifically mention my dad and acknowledge everyone else with a more general statement about those who passed. The candles should suffice to honor everyone. You don't want to dwell on sad things at your wedding

Re: Remembering Deceased at your ceremony
my FH passed away about 5 years ago from a horrible type of brain cancer.... i'm going to make a candle as well as a vase for his mom
i may also do the same for my grandfather who passed away on fathersday 10 years ago his wake was on my 18th bday so hes kinda always on my mind lately... i think my dad would love that as a honoring thing for his dad
i'm not telling them it will be somewhat of a surprise

Re: Remembering Deceased at your ceremony
we both lost our dads - so we are mentioning them by name. but other than that, we are not mentioning any other names even though we have grandparents who are deceased as well...

Michelle is your mother doing a speech at the reception? I'm just asking as my father sadly died when we were young and at my sisters wedding my mother talked about him in the speech she gave, just saying he would have loved to walk her down the aisle and would have been so proud of her etc. It was lovely and there wasn't a dry eye in the house.

that would be sweet but push my mother over the edge. that is the fine line i have to walk- want to remember him but not upset her. seeing me w/o him that day will upset her enough

Hi, I think its honorable to remember dad at the wedding. I have also lost my dad, and i'm an only child. So, i know for a fact he would have loved to be there for my wedding. But since he won't be there mentioning his name and maybe even taking a minute of silence would be a very loving gesture

Re: Remembering Deceased at your ceremony
I would also definately make sure to mention your father. If you feel that it is important to mention each grandparent by name - then by all means you should!
Otherwise you can make a general statement like 'We would like to remember with much love all those who can not be with us today'.
I know I will definately mention my mom (eventhough my stepmom will not be happy about it), and I might want to mention my grandparents and I think Fh will want to mention at least the grandpa he recently lost.

Re: Remembering Deceased at your ceremony
I feel very strongly about mentioning my dad and only my dad by name during the ceremony. He passed away not even two years ago.My grandmother just passed away the day before Easter this year. I told my mom before she passed that whatever happens I only want to mention my dad specifically during the ceremony. I am writing in my church programs a memorial poem dedicated to my dad. And then I will make mention of all the other people who have passed and can not be with us on this special day. But I feel that losing my dad is such a significant loss that I can bear to go through this day without him...even in spirit.

I am going to definitely mention my mom. I havent really began to think about how or in what manner, but it is hard enough to go through all this without her that I cant imagine not having her acknowledged on that day.
