Removing Wallpaper

Removing Wallpaper

Has anyone done this themselves? DH and I have some really ugly wallpaper in our home that was put up in the early to mid 80's. We want it down! We have the Diff and are thinking of trying it. Does anyone have any tips? Does a steamer work better?

I'm glad you posted this, I can use the advice too. The house we bought has the ugliest - I mean really the ugliest - wallpaper in the bathroom. And it doesnt even match the tiles! This stuff has to come down ASAP.

Re: Removing Wallpaper

Oh my! I took a small border down in a bedroom once and I thought NEVER AGAIN and that was just a border! I would recommend doing it with a steamer yet I have never used one. Used the Dif and while it worked great, we had to score the border first, apply Dif, and peel off and that didn't always works so there was more scoring and more Dif, it was a nightmare. My parents and I did it, I cannot imagine doing it for an entire room, especially OLD wallpaper (and sometimes you fund other wallpaper under there and the sheetrock coming off with it like my girlfriend did in her house!)

Good Luck! After that, I swore that I would never put wallpaper anywhere in my house!!

Re: Removing Wallpaper

Well we just tried an area as a test and it wasn't as bad as I expected. This project seems do-able but it will be work. We have the 3M gel, not DIF. We peeled off the printed paper part, then applied the stuff using a roller (you have to put a ton of it on!), waited the 20 minutes, and then started peeling. Most of it peeled off without scraping, but we had to scrape some. Then we had to scrub off the remaining glue with a scrub brush and some warm water & detergent. Well, it looks like this will be our next project! I'll post some before, during, and after pics when I'm done!
