Renting/Selling wedding gowns???

Original post by silyss

So, I've been talking to a few work friends about either renting or buying a new dress and then selling it. Basically, I am not planning on preserving my dress, and I don't really care if I keep it or not. I would LOVE to save $$ on my dress and use it towards my honeymoon! Does anyone know anything about either renting a dress, or buying a new one and then selling it?

Thanks so much!

OMG.. I just looked into the Filenes thing! I think my mom and I may take a 1/2 day from work and go to this!

I so wanted to do this!!! Let us know how it goes! It's in February, right?

I may look into this if I were do to a 'trash the dress' photo shoot...Sort of just buying it cheap...

I doubt they'd allow you to do a TTD shoot in a rented dress. It'd probably end up costing more to clean/repair than it'd be worth.

Thanks Girls. I will try David's Bridal.. and then whatever dress I get, maybe consider selling it.

So your sis sold her dress on LI Weddings?

I also want to try and get a floor sample of a dress..

If you are up for it, you could always do the running of the brides at Filene's Basement. I think they sell samples.

I think i may want to try that

I got my dress on CL. It was worn once and the bride just wanted it out of her closet. $150 for a $900 dress. It was 3 years old but I didn't care at all. I ended up paying more for the alterations ($200) than I did for the dress!

Hi, I am renting my gown from a bridal shop called Wedding Box in Flushing Queens. Here is the website if you want to give them a call: http://www.wedding-box.com/

My friend used this one for her wedding: http://www.truelovewedding.com/

No. I hear its better in the afternoon and the gowns are actually organized by size whereas they are just placed randomly on the racks in the morning. My sister said her co-worker bought a dress in the afternoon there and it wasn't crazy at all.

Wonderful! I'm really excited
