Repost from BHB - need some help from experienced people!
My 'longest' friend - we've known each other since we're 4, is 21. She met a guy, dated for 8 months, and he proposed. They're having an e-party @ the Meadow Club on Sunday, and I don't know what to give.
They're planning a July/August 2006 weddings, and they purposely didn't register anywhere yet because they want monetary e-gifts. The couple is currently living in 2 separate cities b/c they're still in college.
My dilemma is that I don't know how much to give. FH and my plates will cost her about $80, but her parents are paying for everything. I already know that I'm a bridesmaid, so I think that changes things too. This girl comes from money, and I, unfortunately, don't have much. Both my FH and my mother feel $100 is appropriate...is that cheap?!
What would you do?
I've never been to an e-party outside my family, and the most recent family one was 12 yrs ago! HELP! The party is Sunday. TIA!

I thik $100 is perfectly fine and appropriate. it's what I would give. As a BM you're going to have a lot of expensies in the future and many more opportunities to give them gifts if you don't feel like $100 is a lot. I think it's PLENTY! We didn't get that much from some family members!

i think that is fine. or maybe a g/c to a restaurant stating that this is for when you two have a weekend together in the same city or something like that. super generous, though.

I feel $100 is fine. Is she going to also have a shower? Since your a BM I'm sure you will be 'shelling out' more $ along the way. Its the thought that counts. Have a great time!

I agree..I think 100 is great! Like everyone else said, as a BM you'll be spending lots more!
