She just lost her other Kitty a month ago. Anyways I know nothing at all about cats, Im a dog person. I would like to get her a Kitty for Christmas. Where should I go????? I need your help big time on this one. Thanks in advance

Re: Repost: Where to adopt a Kitty
We got ours from a shelter but it looks like your friend had bad luck there. Just please don't get it from a pet store. Don't get any animals from a pet store. The pets they sell are born and raised into horrible conditions and then sold to these stores and by buying them there you're supporting the process.
Have you tried looking online, petfinder.org is a good website. You plug in your zip and it links you to available pets that are up for adoption. Good Luck!
oh, one more thing, please make sure your friend cleans and disinfects her home thoroughly and doesn't reuse any of the cat things that she was using with the two kitties that died. It could have been any number of kitty diseases (FIP is somewhat common in shelter cats, usually undetectable until after they're dead and can be spread even after death). The virus can stay in the litter box, carpet, furniture etc. and she should make sure it's all clean and new stuff for a new cat.

Re: Repost: Where to adopt a Kitty
Most shelters will not adopt any animal around Christmas time. I'm told they do this in the best interest of the animals, so they aren't given to individuals not prepared to have and properly care for a pet.
I would check your local classifieds to see kittens for sale or being given away.

Oh and check with local vet clinics in your area. Sometimes they will have or know of many animals in need of a loving home

Re: Repost: Where to adopt a Kitty
We got our cat, Sonny, from a resuce group called All About Spay ad Neuter. She works out of Massapequa.
i got mine at oyster bay animal shelter it was $59 and includes the rabies shot and spay/nuter
and if you use their vet in oysterbay for her shots and stuff he takes 50% off all the kittys shots and stuff like that.

I got my dog from north shore animal league but that was a long time ago. I know they have cats there too. Both of the cats I used to have were outside cats and we took them in. Good luck!

Re: Repost: Where to adopt a Kitty
No no! Try Islip animal shelter. Its a kill shelter, and the animals there are put down if they're not eventually adopted! Places like north shore don't put animals to sleep, so adopt from a place that does and save a kitty!!

Re: Repost: Where to adopt a Kitty
My rescue has TONS of kittys for adoption.. Although FYI most rescues will not adopt out an animal if its for a gift. Just incase the recipient is not ready for a pet. Unless of course your in the same household and are willing to accept full responsibility for the animal. If your looking for a kitty try the shelters, the fall was so warm that there are TONS of kittens around. Also I know of some low cost vet clinics around if you wanna get the kitty tested and checked over before its given to make sure its healthy. FM me if you need any help.
