I am totally clueless about the hotel and have a few questions. If you can help, I would be grateful!
1. About how long before the wedding should I look to reserve a block of rooms?
2. Will I need to leave a deposit when doing so?
3. What if we need a ton more rooms than we thought or what if we need way less than we thought?
4. Our invitations will state an 11:30am start time. Should I be reserving rooms both for the night before the wedding and the night of? We will likely have a number of out of town guests coming from Boston and Pennsylvania, along with some possibly coming from Virginia and North Carolina.
TIA!

Re: Reserving Hotel Blocks
Each hotel works different. Most don't require a deposit but some do. Most will provide you with a certain amount of rooms to start and as they book and you think you need more you can open more rooms to your block as long as the hotel still has availability. I booked mine 1 year out to give oot guests a chance to make arrangements ahead of time. My wedding is on sat and my hotel block is from thurs - sunday in case people want to extend their visit. HTH

It depends on the hotels policy. but I would block it as soon as you can just to have it ready and get it out the way. I didnt have to leave a deposit their policy was if i block 10 rooms i must be able to fill 7 or im responsible

Re: Reserving Hotel Blocks
I would suggest blocking asap!! We didn't have to put any deposit down, and are not liable for any unbooked rooms.
I could only block 10 at a time, so if you need more, try to find a hotel that will do more in the beginning. We were told we could add more if needed, and as long as there was availability, but...of course as luck would have it, there were no more rooms. So, we could only do 10 and I had to suggest other hotels in the area at regular prices.
Oh..and I only blocked for the night of the wedding, but being you have alot of OOT guests in other states I would probably do 2 nights.

Block it ASAP. I blocked mine in Jan 2012 for a March 2013 wedding thinking we had plenty of time but they only had 17 rooms left! You never know so it's better to get it over with so you aren't stressing later.

When did you book your block? Our wedding isn't til October at FH, but one of BMs asked me when she could book and I had no idea what to tell her

Re: Reserving Hotel Blocks
I booked my block the same day I booked the hall. Since it's right next door I knew people would love the convience of that so I wanted to make sure I blocked it right away.

Re: Reserving Hotel Blocks
I have to get in touch with them soon, I think. Jen said the block was done at a later date, but I'm pretty sure I'll be able to guarantee the 7 rooms off the bat and I want to make sure there are enough during the holiday weekend. Thanks!
