Reupholstering a couch--how much?

Reupholstering a couch--how much?

When FH and I move into our 'grown up apartment' (aka--the apartment with NO Ikea furniture ), we were going to buy a new couch but I really love my couch and I think it has a good frame. It's a chenille-type fabric now but I was wondering how much it would be to reupholster it in suede? Any ideas? Thanks!

What I've been told is that the material is the highest cost, then the labor. My aunt had all of her furniture redone, but I don't know the cost. It must be cheaper tho!

I had a couch upholstered. I bought it without fabric. Since it was a new couch, they did not need to do anything to improve it. So figure yours would probably be a little more. I believe I paid $1400 for it (not including the fabric). Here is a picture so you can compare the size to yours.

I looked into it at one point, and I found that in general it was cheaper to get a new couch, especially it needs any improvements (i.e.- re-stuffing the cushions).

Actually, I think it might have been $1100. I know that the couch, two chairs and the ottoman came to $2400-$2600

Thanks! My couch is in really good condition so hopefully it would just need new fabric. I wanted a neutral colored suede. In theory, I could just go and buy a new one from Crate & Barrel or Pottery Barn but I really love my couch. It's so comfortable!

From what I hear Jenn, it's more expensive to reupholter than to buy new, but I haven't done it myself yet. We have my aunt's couch slipcovered for now with the hope of reupholtering it, but I heard it was real pricey.
