This is my first time posting and you all seem to have great advice. I am beginning to plan my wedding (yay!!) but am having a lot of trouble choosing a venue (and date)
The venues that we love at this point are East Wind, Fox Hollow and Swan Club for a Friday night wedding. I've visited others but none have been as good as those three.
Besides choosing the venue, the initial problem is travel for my guests. If our wedding is on a Friday, East Wind will compete with Hampton traffic where Fox Hollow and Swan Club won't. Saturdays are too expensive. I'm partial to Sundays but I don't want our guests traveling then having to work the next day.
What do you think?? I'm at a loss!!!
Thanks!!!

Re: RH HELP!!!
it sounds like you are leaning towards the other two that are closer so i would go w/ either one of those. of course, i'm partial to fox hollow!

Re: RH HELP!!!
Welcome!!
FH refused to look at anything way out easy because of the same issue. He felt it was unfair to ask our guests to travel that far let alone on a Friday in all that traffic.
If you found another place you really like- and they have the date you want available go for it. I have been to Fox Hollow for a big birthday bash and they were excellent.
Congrats!

I am also partial to Fox Hollow. My wedding is a Sunday night and will be over by 11:30pm. I was also on the fence about Friday vs. Sunday and decided on Sunday since it doesn't end late and everyone is local.

We just had our wedding at the Swan Club on a Friday night and it was amazing! Let me know if you have any questions.

Re: RH HELP!!!
My wedding is in July at the East Wind and my mom lives right down the block from there. I haven't really noticed any horrible traffic going out to her house this summer. Usually the traffic into the Hamptons and Montauk is on Rt. 27.

Re: RH HELP!!!
I've been to weddings at East Wind, but since I live off of Exit 63, I didn't have to travel much. I agree with the prior post about the Hamptons traffic.
However, keep in mind that people will be traveling the LIE, east, on a Friday afternoon out that way so there will be traffic there. Maybe not so much once you had north up to near where East Wind is, but definitely on the LIE. I travel east in bumper to bumper traffic coming home from work.
I've been to weddings at Fox Hollow and have had no complaints; I'm going to a friends wedding there in October.
I looked at Swan Club and really liked it for our wedding, but it didn't work well logistically with my church which is out east.
Good luck with your decision!

Re: RH HELP!!!
Hi-
What about a twilight time on Sunday- you can start at about 2 or 3 - the wedding wont go as late. Mine is at 12:30- wish it was later but place was available at this time on our date.

Re: RH HELP!!!
I'm a Swan Club bride on a Friday night, so my opinion may be a little biased. Nothing against any of the other amazing places you've visited, I've seen most of them myself. But SC grabbed me in from the beginning and never let go! I adore the ceremony room and the Garden Room. Friday nite's price is extremely reasonable and the food is really good! What more could you ask for? Also, the travel there from the Belt Pkwy is a snap.

Re: RH HELP!!!
Welcome...swan club and fox hollow are both great RHs (so is EW but it sounds like your leaning towards the other two). I would make a list of what is importaint to you and see who fulfills your needs.

Re: RH HELP!!!
ive been to 2 weddings at FH and both were great!
as far as the fri-sun debate --- we went with a sunday a little earlier but not a day wedding - we are doing cocktail hr at 5 and reception 6 to 10 - this way its not too late (most ppl would be home by 11) and they can still go to work mon
we didnt choose friday b/c i feel that its important for ppl to be at the ceremony which in our case is at a church and if we had a friday wedding the church would be when most ppl were still at work and so they would just come to the reception

Re: RH HELP!!!
My advice would be to visit both Swan Club and Fox Hollow on a Friday after work around the time your ceremony/reception would start.
I am a Friday night, Fox Hollow bride and would NEVER consider a Sunday or a day wedding. That's just us- we're big partiers and love night life. We need a day to recover. Our reception begins at 8pm and our ceremony in Queens begins at 4pm- works out fine.
Good luck and TAKE YOUR TIME! Don't rush this big decision. Really, mull it over and be 100% sure before your put your deposit down. The RH really will make or break your event. Read as much as you can about each one.

Re: RH HELP!!!
what about sunday morning wedding? we have about 75 out of town guests and we are doing a sunday afternoon wedding. ends at 8 30. people can still drive home or even fly if they had to. i think most people are staying over night though.

Re: RH HELP!!!
When I was looking for reception halls in June, I looked at the Fox Hollow. I thought it was great. I adored the Winter Garden Room; however, the room wouldn't be able to accommodate all of my guests. The Fox Hollow is great because people could stay at The Inn at Fox Hollow next door if they don't want to travel after a night of partying.
When I attended a wedding at the East Wind on a Friday, I did sit in a lot of traffic on the Long Island Expressway. However, the wedding was wonderful though. They had great food and great service.
My FSIL just attended a wedding at the Swan Club last Saturday. She said the food during the cocktail hour and the reception was great. Also, she stated the grounds were beautiful. I was going to look at the Swan Club. I had two appointments to see RH's in one day. The Inn at New Hyde Park was first. Once I saw that place, I decided not to go. I just fell in love with The Inn. I heard nothing but good things about the Swan Club though.. Good luck with your planning

Re: RH HELP!!!
IA with those saying to have a Sunday afternoon wedding. Our ceremony is at 2:30 and our reception will be over at 8pm. Our RH is out east (Setauket) but we didn't feel bad because 8pm is more than enough time for anyone local to get home...and our OOT guests are REALLY OOT (Ohio and farther) so they'd be staying over either way.

Re: RH HELP!!!
Thanks everyone for the great comments!!
It's funny...East Wind is still my favorite but I'm from East Northport, so traffic-wise, I understand why it might not be a possibility on a Friday.
@ Corinne Ann: My fiance is from CT so I'd only do a Sunday early afternoon because of his family. I was thinking of giving my guests that stay in town a LI itinerary of things to do, since a lot of them have never been.
@ ttdiff11, JenBill61210 and Chreesta: Definitely leaning more towards Fox and Swan for the closeness aspect. And right now its my FH favorite. I definitely have to do my research.
@all that I can't comment for: Thanks again for all of your advice! It still makes everything hard and I want to choose wisely. I'll come to a decision soon enough, but I have plenty of time, 2011 is a long way away!!

Re: RH HELP!!!
As far as East Wind, it's up north and I think the main traffic on Fridays to the Hamptons is the Sunrise Hwy (Rt 27) traffic, which is south shore.
Guests would be taking a different route to your wedding.
