trying to make my mom part of the wedding by involving her in our choices but i think that was a bad move on my part...
now she is forcing Leonards for our wedding venue ...

The only thing I would be wary about is having everyones' opinions... the first RH that we went to, *some* of the people we brought were getting a LITTLE pushy about doing a Fri night instead of a Sat b/c of the cost difference. But we really wanted a Sat night, and we had 2 stand our ground

Only my fiance and I went to check out venues. I thought it would be too complicated involving our parents. Too many opinions are not always a good thing. The only opinions that should really matter are his and mine because it is OUR wedding. It was hard enough trying to find a place we both loved, imagine having to make sure everyone in our family loved the same place too. I don't think we would have a venue yet if that were the case.

My mom and dad went with me and FH, since they were paying. But they have similar tastes and also would never push a decision on me. If anything they are annoying the other way and won't tell me their opinion on major decisions until after I have made my mind up.

Although on the photographer and band my dad had no problem giving his opinion. Which was a good thing.

FH and I went to look and then when we were between two I brought my parents to see as well. We have very similar taste so I knew their opinion would be on par with what we wanted.

we went with my parents since they are paying for the reception....

we went alone to vendors when we were paying

and will bring FHs parents to DJ and Flowers which they are paying for...

we are going to look at RH first and see which ones we like and don't like and which fit into our budget. Then when we find a few we like and really narrow it down we will bring the parents in and see what they think.

It's alot less stressful than waiting on them to find a mutually agreeable date everytime you want to go and its quality time with your loved one when you go alone. Plus this way you and your S.O. can discuss what you're looking for in a place, and the options they offered etc, without anyone else tainting the decision with their input.

I say just you two...you really want the place that YOU want and the less opinions and people trying to sway you, the better! Maybe include her by taking her once you choose a place to sign the contract.

I went to all the RHs with my mom. FH is insanely busy and did not have time to go to so many places. Once I had decided on a favorite place, I brought him for approval. It worked out well for me.

ETA: I took him to 2 places (just the 2 of us) after I had already visited them with my mom & narrowed it down.

I can't even vote because my FH couldn't get off from work some days. So during the week I went with my mom and during the weekends I went with FH. Since FH is from Connecticut, I waited until we were ready to decide on the venue before I brought both my mom and FMIL...
