Ridiculous! At work...

I work in HR as some of you know and yes, we are supposed to be kind and warm and blah blah...

BUT there is a limit. Sometimes it gets to the point where my boss and I feel taken advantage of.

So yesterday, a lady comes to my cube while I AM ON THE PHONE and starts talking to me. I help up one finger (no not the middle although I would have loved to!) and said give me one sec.

So she goes to the next cube which is my boss's and asks him for a band aid. At this point I am off the phone and go over to see where she went.

Well, she was in DESPERATE need for a band aid and you know why? For a microscopic paper cut. She asks us for antiseptic. My boss says, we did have some but we just ran out. She says 'Ok, well can you just run out and get some more for me?' (BTW, she is no high level person or anything!)

So, we were literally speechless and said 'uh, yeah we will have to replace it when we have the chance'. Trying to be nice. So we took a road trip to Duane Reade just to get some air and so that I would not hand in my resignation spur of the moment LOL.

Unbelievable...I understand HR is helpful and all, I have done this for 3 years - BUT - at some point people have to take responsibility. After I remind you 3 times that if you dont hand in your OT to me you wont get paid for it in the next check and you still dont hand it in and then blame me! it is your responsibility.

so people are so stupid they deserve a good kick in the a$$

Wow I would love to go to HR and ask for a bandaid...that would be too much.

You should of told the woman to bring in her own bandaids and own antiseptic, and that you are not a nurse, you are a HR person.....People are too ridiculous.

That is crazy -- here is a suggestion though - in my office we have several people in HR called facilities coordinators that handle those types of things like bandaids, antiseptic, advil, coffee, bottled water, etc.

Leave the bandaids/antiseptic/advil in a central location (for us it is behind our reception area in a cabinet) and send out a blanket email to all employees detailing where the items are located and if you are out of such an item - to send you an email explaining what is out of stock and that it will be filled in a normal timeframe.

Maybe that will set a policy and prevent random people coming over to you throughout the work day.
