Rights to your wedding photos?
Do you have the rights to your wedding photos from your photographer? And does it matter if you do or don't?

Rights to your wedding photos? - Long Island Weddings
I do have the rights to all photos. It did matter to FH and I very much if we had the rights. If you don't have the rights to your pictures you would always have to go through the photographer for prints, albums, etc. That being said the majority of photographers give you the rights to your pictures but its definitely a question you want to ask!

But can't you make your own prints at anytime because you have a CD/USB with all your photos?

If you have a CD/USB with all the high res photos on it then you do have the rights to your photos. Having rights only means that you don't have to contact your photographer to print them. When you don't have rights only your photographer would be able to print them.

I got my rights and this was so important to me because I didn't want to have to buy all my prints and albums from my photographer. I wanted to DIY my album and stuff. I think it's important to have the rights so you can print however you like, my photographer explained this when we booked.

If you don't get the rights / high res. cd you can use the cd they give you for facebook and things like that but you wont be able to print quality photos. When the photographer gives you rights and a high resolution cd, you can take them somewhere at any time and get printed or get albums made. This was important to us.

I'm actually really glad I read this post, because I wouldn't even think to ask that when looking for photographers. Thanks!

Agree with all the other girls. Photo rights were very important to us, and we are getting a high res CD with the rights to our pics. As of now, we are not getting an album with our photographer, and I wanted the flexibility to print our photos when we wanted.

The photographer may be able to give you a high res cd with your photos without giving you the rights. They can lock the cd so you can't print or share the photos. I saw 25 photographers and only one wouldn't give us the rights to the photos for 3 years. All the others made sure to tell me they do give you the rights.Welcome New Vendors
